Grafton Plaza Towers

I’m happy to report that the Lin Family, aka Charter Properties, has decided to NOT build the Towers at Grafton Plaza. You may recall that the original proposal was to build 3 towers with the tallest clocking in at 21 stories. While the Towers have been pulled off the table, those-in-the-know believe that the Lin Family will still come back with a less-audacious residential component that will be somewhere between the height of the nearby Terraces and the Sybase building.

Credit for defeating the Towers concept goes to the vociferous Dublin residents, Councilman Tim Sbranti, Mayor Janet Lockhart and Planning Commissioner Bill Schaub.

The Lin Family will continue to move forward with their design plans for Grafton Plaza which will include fabulous features such as a boutique hotel (about 100 rooms without conference facilities), 180,000 square feet of office space, a humongous fitness club to rival Club Sport, upscale retail (does any plaza ever set out to have liquor stores and pawn shops?), about 30 or so live-work units, and a few other features. In accordance with the City of Dublin’s brilliant goal of placing art in all public places, Grafton Plaza will be sure to have inventive and distinctive art that really pulls together the Plaza.

The City Council will be hearing the Lin Family’s updated proposal and deciding whether or not to amend the East Dublin Specific Plan to accommodate the proposal during the City Council meeting on November 6th.
