Dublin Loves its Senior Community!
Some may remember when the city branded itself as Digital Dublin – appealing to the interests of a the younger hi-tech sect. To some extent, Dublin has continued to market to the younger up-and-coming crowd w/ it’s dedication to affordable housing (you know, only $800K for a townhouse) and bringing in technology companies (e.g., Sybase). Dublin has another side. A side that few may know about. Dublin also loves its senior community. This is evidenced by the newer Dublin Senior Center and affordable senior housing at Wicklow Square. Both buildings were built on the site of the old Dublin Library (next to Target). The senior center provides Dublin’s senior community with an abundance of health services, enrichment classes, a large gathering hall, entertainment, computers, affordable/quality meals, transportation (see picture of mini-bus) etc.
Dublin also provides its residents with affordable housing at Wicklow Square. These are below market rate rents (some units can be rented for less than 20% of market value). As you can see from some of these photos, Wicklow Square is gorgeous from the outside…as for the inside, I couldn’t say because of the iron-clad security of the building (which I suppose is a good thing).
Dublin also has affordable senior housing on the east side at the Groves. Transportation is provided by the Groves for its senior residents. This is key until the retail (Grafton Plaza and Station) and medical (Kaiser) are built out between Lochart and Brannigan along Dublin Blvd. Please check out this video – Dublin’s State of the City for 2006. Further into the video, you can see the information and background for the affordable housing at the Groves:
Dublin’s State of the City – 2006
Mayor Lockhart and the last few councils have made it a priority to provide Tri-Valley seniors with the quality services and housing that they so richly deserve.
