What do Sir Isaac Newton, Andy Warhol and a rubber chicken have in common? They’re all part of the innovative curriculum at Camp Galileo, the Bay Area’s fastest-growing summer camp company for Pre-K through 5th graders. And now, thanks to the camp’s expanding universe, more kids than ever before will be able to explore its latest array of art, science and outdoor activities this summer.

Camp Galileo will be opening a new location in Dublin at John Green Elementary School. Camp Galileo’s format consists of 3 chocked-full weeks of science and art topics:

  • Campers are grouped by grade level into teams of 16 that remain together for the week.
  • Every day campers rotate with their team between Art, Science and Outdoor activities, dividing time equally between the three topics.
  • Traditional camp activities like opening and closing ceremonies, skits, all-camp games and team building fill the remaining hours.

This year’s Art & Science Themes are:

  • Ancient Egypt & Crime Solver Scientists
  • Shape It, Sculpt It! & Amusement Park Science
  • Psychedelic ‘60s & Space Explorers

One of the wonderful aspects of Camp Galileo’s program is that they set aside 10% of their available spots for scholarships – or $450K for all camp sites in 2008. Camp Galileo’s program also provides:

  • Dublin with roughly 20 summer jobs, and
  • John Green Elementary School with much-needed rental fees during the summer.

This year’s Camp Director at the Dublin site is Christina Guerra. There’s a whole bunch of additional information at Camp Galileo’s website.
