To both display it’s proud history and meet a need to provide West Dublin with more park space, the City of Dublin will be unveiling Phase I of the Dublin Historic Park as early as 2009. Phase I will proudly showcase the following new features:

  • Informal performance stage
  • Walking trail
  • Outdoor classroom
  • Orchard garden
  • An interactive water fountain for kids
  • Much more (please click on the conceptual drawing above)

The nucleus of the Historic Park will include Dublin’s crown jewels:

  • Old St. Raymonds Church
  • The Murray Schoolhouse (which doubles as our Heritage Museum)
  • The original Pioneer Cemetery

A potential new addition will be the Kolb Family homestead which would include the main house, barn, a second house on the property, and a small building. The City Council is still evaluating whether or not to relocate this historic treasure from it’s current location. The deliberation is due to the cost of relocating and rehabilitating the property – estimated to be between $1.1M and $2.2M. While the Kolb Family might be willing to contribute some of their own funds to the relocation and rehabilitation, funds have not been set aside for this potential new addition.

The Historic Park will be located where the Dublin Square Shopping Center is currently located on the corner of Dublin Blvd. and Donlon Way (adjacent to I-580). The City purchased this land for $7.87M from the Berkeley Land Company in 2007. Phase I’s total budget is for $12.8M and will be completely funded by the City’s general fund (e.g., sales and property tax revenue). The currently unfunded Phase II of the Historic Park is estimated to cost $9.5M. Proceeds for Phase II development could come from West Dublin impact fees generated by the West Dublin BART station transit village and other nearby in-fill opportunities.
