Fallon Sports Park Update

The Parks commission received a presentation from Carducci and Associates summarizing the progress made on the Fallon Sports Park project. The commission members all agreed that the park will be a fabulous addition to the City of Dublin and should be a huge draw for little league, softball, and soccer leagues – not to mention the tournaments that will bring in consumers and business from throughout the Tri-Valley and beyond. Two members of our community addressed the commission during the public comments portion of the evening – the first resident reiterated the Dublin soccer league’s support for having artificial turf soccer fields and the second resident reiterated the Dublin little league’s support for having certain provisions and features built into the little league diamonds.
After a bit of deliberation, the Parks commission voted to recommend to the Dublin City Council that artificial turf be added to two of the soccer fields (the other 2 soccer fields would be natural turf). The one point of contention for the City Council could be the price tag – $1M. Given that the Fallon Sports Park is only $50K below the $11.5M master plan Phase I development budget…the funds would likely need to be derived from the general fund or possibly an East Dublin impact fee fund. However, given the state of new development in the present moment, the former is probably more likely than the latter.
