Whole Foods Update

IT’S OFFICIAL!!! About two years ago, there was speculation that Whole Foods would be opening a store in Dublin. About a year ago, there was talk that it might open in the Dublin Ranch Villages…and then about 6 months ago, Blake Hunt Ventures confirmed that Whole Foods would likely open in their new 305,000 sq. ft. retail property across from Sybase and Hacienda Crossing…
Whole Foods just confirmed that they will be opening a 50,000 sq. ft. store by 2010 in Blake Hunt Ventures’ soon-to-be-built Green on Park Place in Dublin. Please click here for the story.

I’m so jealous, I first experienced Whole Foods when i visited Connecticut, USA earlier this year.. being from Australia, I hadn’t experienced a supamarket like it… I soooo wish they would come to Australia, Brisbane in particular…

I am so looking forward to Whole Foods in Dublin (California). I always have to come to San Ramon – this will be so close to my home and I cannot wait! Such a good news!

Any update on any actual opening date?

Hi Maurice – unfortunately, Whole Foods dropped Dublin from their list of future store locations. Please check out this article for more details:
Uncertain Future for The Green on Park Place

with all the high density, apartments and BMRs, a food max or a grocery outlet would be a better fit to serve the low end community. Whole Foods would be too upscale for the masses here to support. Just being sarcastic here.

I don’t think East Dublin is “Low Income” Maybe West Dublin is geared toward Lower Income families. Great news that Whole Foods will be at this location. Happy to not have to travel to San Ramon! So excited and can’t wait!

Sorry East Dublin Home Owner, this story is a couple years old. Whole Foods is not coming here after all, at least for the time being. The Green on Park Place remains on hold.

Since Green on Park Place is supposed to be like a Santana Row, a Bristol Farms should fit in here quite nicely. Where exactly is the low end community located? I am curious since there is so much talk about it on this blog.

What happened to the Whole Foods that was supposed to be done by 2010? Is it still happening?

Hi JC – I haven’t heard anything more about Whole Foods’ status at The Green.
Thx, John Z.

It should be time for City of Dublin to be aggressive getting wholefood here.
Fremont’s loss could be Dublin’s gain.

do we wait for Whole Foods, or whoever, to tell us more? Or can someone investigate?

Hi Mike,
Whole Foods has unfortunately delisted Dublin from its stores in development. That change happened a while ago and occurred around the time when Whole Foods dramatically scaled down its expansion effort.

That’s too bad. OK, Thanks.

I am not impressed with the overpriced Whole Foods. They only have a few real organic foods for sale at a high price. Huge onions are not organic, they are genetically grown with the first three layers so hard they are unusable. I grew up on a farm and know the difference. Smaller onions are natural. Their peaches at a high price also are genetically altered, tasteless, with a lot of pulp and no juice. These are also GA. Who needs all the junk put in foods these days. No wonder so many people have cancer. Do not buy strawberries grown in Santa Cruz as pesticides are put into the soil. Even workers picking the strawberries became to ill to work. The FDA approves anything as long as they are first lobbied (bribed.) Write to the FDA and see if you ever get an answer.

In fact WF sells a lot of real organic produce. FIrst you probably need to educate yourself on the subject and terminology. Second, WF has one of the best selection of quality meats. Yes, it’s expensive, but I’m ready to pay more for good meats. Third, they have best bakeries that you can find in chain stores. Best cakes, pastries, real bread (european that is) and many other things that you can’t find in other stores.

Fremont is getting its Whole Foods now, it will be located in the building on Mowry Avenue formerly occupied by Barnes and Noble which closed. That store though at roughly 30K SF will be one of the smaller ones, much smaller than the 50K sf originally planned for Dublin. Too bad we have to continue to drive to San Ramon for Wholefoods and end up shopping at their Target and eating at a nearby restuarant there also. I sure hope that with the turnaround in the economy Whole Foods will change their mind about Dublin and come back. But if all we are building are starter homes, apartments and BMR units it won’t support an upscale grocer like Whole Foods.

Is Whole Food still coming to town? We’ve been waiting awfully long!
