As reported by the SF Chronicle, Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty used his political muscle to persuade BART to apply a coat of paint to the East Dublin BART station parking garage. BART’s spokesperson Linton Johnson confirmed that the color of the acrylic paint will be an earth tone. The cost of the paint job is estimated to be $500,000. The tab for the first coat will be picked up by Alameda County. BART will be responsible for touch-ups and subsequent coats.

It should be noted that not all residents are excited about the new paint job. In a TV30 “News at 4″ interview, Dublin Ranch resident Katherine Fritz commented, “…and as far as color, the grey was fine with me, I object to all of the gaudy earth tones in new construction in the area.” Unfortunately, the required paint job will push out the expected grand opening of the East Dublin BART parking structure to April.

While it’s unfortunate that BART needed a political nudge to do the right thing, the good news is that Dublin will have a more aesthetically pleasing parking structure at the East Dublin BART station.
