Mark Your Calendars – Grafton Plaza Scoping Meeting
The City of Dublin will be hosting a “scoping” meeting to gain input from stakeholders and agencies regarding the potential environmental impact resulting from the proposed Grafton Plaza project. The meeting will be held on Wednesday April 23, 2008 from 6-8pm in the Dublin City Council Chambers (at 100 Civic Plaza).
It’s been awhile since the proposed Grafton Plaza (aka “Grafton Towers”) project has been in the news, so here is a quick recap of the proposed development:
- Grafton Plaza will be adjacent to Grafton Station (where the new Lowe’s is located).
- Four low and mid-rise buildings ranging from 6 to 10 stories in height (the original request from Charter Properties was to build towers as high as 21 stories).
- Proposed uses include a Boutique Hotel, Spa, Commercial and Retail Uses of up to 272,000 square feet, up to 292,000 square feet of office use and up to 470 residential dwellings consisting of Live-Work units, Shop Keeper units and condominiums.
- The Project also includes internal parking garages for approximately 2,440 vehicles, ground-level plazas and landscaping.
The following potential environmental effects are anticipated to be discussed during this “scoping” meeting: aesthetics, air quality, cultural resources, geology and soils, hazards and hazardous materials, hydrology and water quality, noise, population and housing, public services, transportation and circulation, and utilities and service systems.
While this is the first of many future meetings that will be held to discuss Grafton Plaza, please plan to attend this meeting to ensure that your voice is heard early in the process.

Is this the area under construction now? Isn’t it too late to have meetings when construction is already under way?

Hi Anonymous – the area under construction right now is part of the Grafton Station development (the 4 retail buildings). They’ve made a great deal of progress in the past few months. However, the Grafton Plaza project is still in the scoping stages.

The last thing this city needs right now is more residental. Hotels – Yes, Spa – Yes, Commercial – Yes, Residental – No!!! There is to much subprime forclosed property already. Let’s get that sold first before adding any more inventory. Add the jobs and the rest will take care of itself.

couldn’t agree more. we need more residential like we need a hole in our head. i’d even prefer to see a gas station built in east dub over more residential!
