Quick Update on The Promenade in Dublin

Representatives for Charter Properties and Leisure Sports Inc. have both confirmed that they are still in negotiations to finalize a deal to build a 50,000 sq. ft. “lifestyle fitness resort” in Phase I of the Promenade in Dublin, CA. While there isn’t any reason to think that the deal won’t go through, it is important to note that it has not been finalized as of yet.
An update should be available within a month. Please check back here for more details.

Hi John, I know you’re excited about the fitness center, but I still don’t think it’s quite the anchor Dublin needs. Such an establishment would take up too large a percentage of the Promenade that could be used for more, smaller retail spaces that would give residents more of a variety. I’m just not convinced a fitness center is the answer. I know Santana Row has one, but Santana Row has MANY anchors, and when people talk about SR, I never hear them talk about the fitness center.

Hi Anonymous – you bring up some good points. Having more retail shops at the Promenade instead of the fitness center could be a great thing…especially if the Council votes to not change Grafton Plaza’s land use designation and keep it at campus office.
The only concern that I would have if the fitness center deal falls through is that it’ll push Phase I development of the Promenade out to an undetermined date.

Just a quick question. Once there is an agreement reached between the two parties, does this go before the city, or has the city already approved this part of the promenade?

Hi Anonymous – once/if an agreement is reached between Charter Properties and Leisure Sports Inc., then both parties will need to go through the formal planning process with the City (e.g.., the Planning department and possibly the Planning commission and City Council).
Thx, John Z.
