Local Businesses in Dublin

by John M. Zukoski  |  Topics:  Local Businesses · Restaurants

Dublin has a phenomenal assortment of local businesses. The residents of Dublin have a fine collection of local restaurants and retail shops to choose from as evidenced by the 100,000+ folks from all over the Bay Area that visit Dublin for shopping and dining on a regular basis every year.

Some of the favorite Dublin establishments of Around Dublin include Wok’s Up, Earl Anthony’s Dublin Bowl, and Bagel Street Cafe at Waterford Plaza.

What are some of your favorite local restaurants and shops in Dublin (and why)? Please leave a comment or email me at john.zukoski@gmail.com with your recommendations. Your recommendations could be used for future Around Dublin features on local businesses.

    Hi John,
Thank you for focusing on Dublin’s local businesses with your most recent post. If East Dublin wants to see high-end retail and upscale restaurants come in droves, we have to make sure current favorites like Wok’s Up and Stacy’s At Waterford can thrive even in these tough times; otherwise, East Dublin would be no better than the development over at Mountain House.

This is an excellent idea. I hope to see more posts like this.

We seldom dine out, but when we do, we like to go a nice place. It would be great to bring some upscale restaurants like the ones in SF (Bix, Gary Danko, Farallon, and Michael Mina). Another great place is Bing Crosby in Walnut Creek. They have a live band there and it adds so much to the atmosphere.

Bringing these types of restaurants would give the people of Dublin/Tri-Valley more choices. We would be known as a place that also offers fine dining and that will attract a lot of people to our town, which is more revenue for our city.

Our city needs variety. I feel we have a good mix of that, but we need fine dining too.

Hi Kat – I couldn’t agree with you more. The Tri-Valley – and especially Dublin residents – will really benefit from having upscale restaurants. We’ll have the opportunity to bring restaurants like Bing Crosby’s, Bix, Farallon, etc. as the Promenade, Grafton Plaza, and the DiManto parcels along Tassajara are developed. I get excited just thinking about the possibilities. :-)

    Thx, John Z.

    Hi John,

Do you know how we can get the word out to any of the aforementioned upscale restaurants (the owner(s) or whoever is in charge of opening new locations) that we will have space available in these upcoming locations?

It would be incredible if we can bring that to Dublin because it would draw so many people.

    Thanks!!

Hi Kat – that’s a great question. I think that the developers have folks on their teams that are marketing the Promenade, Grafton Plaza, and possibilities with the DiManto properties. The City of Dublin also has the Community Development and Economic Development departments that are in prime position to get the word out to restaurateurs that are looking to expand into a prime city like Dublin. I’ll ask a contact at City Hall what Community/Economic Development does to bring in new businesses.

We hope to see fine dining in our town in the near future. : )

    Hi John,
Would it be possible for you to represent Dublin as we market our
available space to the upscale restaurant and store owners Kat talked about?
I understand the City of Dublin has a Community Development Department
and an Economic Development Department, but the heads of those
departments most likely do not live in East Dublin. As capable as they
may be, they lack the passion and conviction of residents like you and
your readers. The results, or lack there of, seem to highlight only
how conventional their approach has been. As someone who has lived in
East Dublin since 2002, I am thankful we have you with us. Go John!

Hello Anonymous – I will definitely do everything that I can to encourage restaurants and store owners to make a home in Dublin. Business owners will be more and more eager to start operations here in Dublin as word gets out about all that we have to offer (great location, great people, great infrastructure).

    Thx, John Z.

just send them an e-mail. that’s what i did with Louis Vuitton couple of weeks ago. i expressed the need of having a high-end retail in the area and with the gas prices it will avoid the need to travel to san francisco.

I agree that we really need some higher-end dining options (even chains like Morton’s, Ruth’s Chris, Flemings, Roy’s of Hawaii).

John, would it be possible to have your blog have a Log-In option? I am very excited about your ideas for Dublin, etc and I’d love to be able to log in and have you count my vote for various projects (like this restaurant email thing).

You’d call on your readers to log in to be counted, then you could email the restaurants voted on:

“Hi, I’m John Zukoski and I represent the following 2039 Dublin residents in wanting you to open a location here in our city”- (not sending all our email addresses, but a long list of names would be very persuasive I think…)

Each month, you can call on your readers to log in and vote for different initiatives, throwing their support behind your ideas.

Restaurant and other business courtship are not things that show up on a ballot, but can be just as important to our community’s growth and prosperity–

I’d love to have you represent various things that your readers could vote on in this manner-

Hi Gordon – that’s a fantastic idea. How about if we had something like an online petition that residents could sign? I created a sample petition for Fresh & Easy at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/bring-fresh-easy-to-dublin-ca. Please let me know what you think.

    Thx, John Z.

Hi Gordon.. I think bringing in high quality shoping like Crate and Barrell, Draegers might make a case for the restaurants.. You need to bring people to Dublin to shop in nice stores and eat at nice places to keep things looking up.. restaurants alone arent the answer.. something like Santan row in San Jose.. stores, shoping, eating and night life…

I think your wishes have been answered. According to the following article, they plan to open a Fresh & Easy in Pleasanton this year. Although it is not exactly IN Dublin, it is close enough for Dublin shoppers.

Hi Anonymous – it’s great that Fresh & Easy will be opening a store close to us…but it’s unfortunate that they couldn’t find their ideal spot in Dublin. However, I’ll take Whole Foods over Fresh & Easy on any day!

    Thx, John Z.

    Hi John,
I don’t think we should let Pleasanton have Fresh & Easy without a fight. I just sent Fresh & Easy an email to let them know that Dublin is a better fit for their new store, and we can offer them a far superior location than Rosewood Pavilion. I hope Around Dublin and its loyal readers will take the time to write Fresh & Easy as well.

    ===

    Dear Fresh & Easy,
I learned from Pleasanton Weekly, a local paper, that you will be opening a storefront in the Rosewood Pavillion, which is just a block away from Trader Joe’s on Pimlico Drive [1]. I have lived in Dublin on the other side of I-580 from Trader Joe’s for the past 5 years, and I can say with authority that the Rosewood Pavilion is a dying plaza that has absolutely no visibility from I-580. Compared to Trader Joe’s location, which is right next to I-580, Fresh & Easy’s new location is just not as accessible. On my side of I-580 in Dublin, we have this exquisitely designed plaza called Grafton Station whose exterior reminds me of a train station from the 1920s. This up-and-coming shopping center is right next to I-580, and nine distinct village-style single family, townhome and condominium communities are directly to the north of the Grafton Station within walking distance. I hope it’s not too late for Fresh & Easy to reconsider its new store location in the Tri-Valley area. Thank you.

I drove by Dublin Ford last night and saw a small “Dublin Toyota coming soon” sign–So now, what happens to the Dublin Toyota location ? ;-)

Hi Gordon – that’s a great question. There haven’t been any potential tenants identified for Dublin Toyota’s current location(s). However, we should have more details within the next few weeks.

    Thx, John Z.

    Hi John,
It would be great if Dublin Toyota can be relocated to where Dublin Ford used to be. It is a far better location than their current home. Perhaps this move can be used as a model for how we can move tenants to make room for the Downtown Dublin Specific Plan. Please let us know as soon as you find out more details. Thank you.

    Hey Toshi,

I might not have been clear on my post.. It does indeed look like Dublin Toyota is moving to the (now vacant) Dublin Ford location— There is a sign up that says that Dublin Toyota is “coming soon” to that space…

The new Hyatt Place Dublin (formerly known as AmeriSuites) on the corner of Hacienda and Dublin Blvd. looks nice. The new paint color compliments the ‘earth-tone’ facade demonstrated in The Green.
