Weekly Poll: Stores and Restaurants

by John M. Zukoski  |  Topics:  Polls

As Around Dublin readers, you are probably very interested in seeing unique and distinctive stores and restaurants establish roots in East Dublin – specifically Grafton Plaza, the Promenade, the Green on Park Place and the future commercial/retail area along the east side of Tassajara Road (where we currently have open land).

This week’s poll is actually a collection of polls to gauge your preference for the options in each of these categories: retail shops, restaurants, and grocery & coffee/juice bar. Please feel free to click on the links below to familiarize yourself with some of the featured options.

Retail Shops
Smith & Hawken Garden Supply
Crate & Barrel
Burberry
Sur La Table

Restaurants
Bix
Bing Crosby’s
Olive Garden
Left Bank Brasserie

Grocery & Coffee/Juice Bar
Fresh & Easy
Draeger’s
Fantasia Coffee & Tea
Jamba Juice

So which retail shops and restaurants would you like to see in East Dublin?

If we could somehow get a Nugget Market in East Dublin, I would be so happy. That place is one of the biggest things I miss about Davis. I know that they are mainly in the Sacramento area (westernmost store is in Vacaville), but what I wouldn’t give to have one here. Whole Foods and Draeger’s just don’t compare.

I would also love to see a Crate & Barrel nearby, although that might have a bad impact on my wallet! I can’t resist that store.

Hi Kristi – as a Tri-Valley native, I hadn’t heard of Nugget Market. But after looking at their website, I think that I’d love to have one of their stores here in Dublin.

    Thx, John Z.

Hi John, this is fantastic. this is the best blog yet!!! But how can I choose between Burberry and Crate & Barrel? i just can’t. It would help if rearranged a bit like this:

    Category A:
    -Louis Vuitton
    -Burberry
    -Gucci

    Category B:
    -Crate & Barrel
    -Smith & Hawken Garden Supply
    -Sur La Table

I’m glad to be a part of this revolution. Congratulations and more power to you. If the election is today, u’d win tomorrow. You have my full support.

Hi Anonymous – thank you very much for the support. Regarding the poll, I like your grouping of stores into 2 different sub-categories. We could have probably also split out the Grocery and Coffee/Juice Bar poll…we might have more detailed polls like this in the future on Around Dublin.

    Thx, John Z.

    Hi John,

I appreciate you taking the time to put together this poll.

Why not just bring all of these stores to Dublin? Why limit ourselves??

We definitely have the room for it!!

We could also bring other stores like Williams Sonoma, Bebe, Sephora, Gymboree, and Pottery Barn.

Also, a specialty cheese store or high end bakery would be awesome.

We would also love to have a restaurant that features a live band because this town needs some night life, but on a sophisticated level (i.e. jazz band).

    Thanks for all you do!!

Hi Anonymous #3 – I like your suggestions for a high-end bakery or fromagerie in East Dublin. We’ll have another poll in a few weeks for readers to choose from 10 or so retail, restaurant, and grocery/other options.

I absolutely love your question – why limit ourselves? That’s the question we should ask at every step of our City’s development.

    Thx, John Z.

I went to a Fresh and Easy in Arizona recently… Very similar to Trader Joes, except they also had things like Tide with Bleach, Crest toothpaste and other name brand items along with the store brands/organic ones… For me, it was the perfect collection of great pricing, unique foods and a few national brands too… I really liked it (just thought I’d mention that, since some people might not have ever been to one..

I’d love to see a great sports bar added to the new areas coming.. McCovey’s in Walnut Creek has set the standard.. Maybe a second location of that here in Dublin? If not, then how about Kruk and Kuip’s! There are some former Niners in the area too (Brent Jones is in Danville).. If not that, then maybe “JJ’s” (I believe JJ Stokes lives in the area, possibly Dublin Ranch).

Gordon, that is exactly it. My neighbors and I were just talking about the need for a REAL sports bar the other day. As our state-of-the-art Fallon Sports Park gets built, it would be nice for residents and visitors, after the game, to stop by a nice sports bar like McCovey’s on the way home.
