Sorrento East, Devany Square, Parcel Tax, and Day on the Glen

Here are a few quick updates for Dubliners:
Sorrento East by Regent Properties – While Toll Brothers has already sold the Sorrento East land and development rights to Regent Properties, there is a possibility that current residents of Sorrento may be sharing their clubhouse with future home owners from the east side. Much of the plan remains under active review by the developer and the City of Dublin. It’s also important to note that Toll Brothers continues to communicate to home owners that the bridge connecting Sorrento West and Sorrento East will still be built.
Devany Square – this neighborhood park is scheduled to be opened at the very end of July. The City is putting the finishing touches on this 2-acre gem located on the corner of Chancery Lane and Finnian Way.
Parcel Tax – the Dublin Unified School District met this past Tuesday (July 15th) and voted to place the 5-year $99/year parcel tax measure on the November ballot. Their next meeting is scheduled for August 5th.
Day on the Glen – this year’s Day on the Glen will be held on September 21st and 22nd at Emerald Glen Park. Around Dublin will have more info on this fantastic event within the next month or so. In the mean time, here is a list of the Dublin-based businesses and clubs that have already signed up to have booths for Day on the Glen 2008:
- A Creative Preschool
- Active Spine & Rehab Center
- American Swim Academy
- Cachet Salon
- Dental Wonderland
- East Bay Estates
- Olympic Orthodontics
- Pay It Forward Financial
- Sky Martial Arts
- Leslie Wolf / State Farm Insurance
- United Studios of Self Defense
- Dublin Rotary
- Knights of Columbus
This is a great opportunity to support Dublin’s businesses and clubs by checking out their booths at this year’s event. Please send an email to Lorri.Polon@ci.dublin.ca.us if your company or organization would like to reserve a booth for this year’s event.

On April 9th, 2008, Sorrento had our first Master HOA meeting. When asked if Toll Brothers would still be building the pedestrian bridge that will straddle Grafton Street and connect Sorrento West and Sorrento East, Chuck Templeton answered without hesitation that the bridge remains part of the plan. To see an artist’s rendition of this bridge, please click on the “New Video Now Available!” link on the following page:

The pedestrian bridge is prominently featured in the scene right after the pool.

Is the August 5th meeting open to the public? When they have closed sessions like the one on July 15th, do they still have meeting minutes?
11:04 AM on July 23rd, 2008
Hi Anonymous – the August 5th meeting will be at the Dublin School District office at 6:30pm. This will be an open meeting.
The meeting agendas and minutes are at this site: http://dublin.csbaagendaonline.net/cgi-bin/WebObjects/dublin-eAgenda.woa/wa/showMeeting
The 7/15 meeting was actually a closed session for the first hour and an open session thereafter. I’m not sure if the closed session minutes would be available. I’ll check the site noted above once the 7/15 minutes are posted to see if the closed session notes are included.
Thx, John Z.

Hello John – I just wanted to know if you have any update on Devany Square. It was supposed to open at the end of July but there is no sign of it yet ?
6:14 PM on August 16th, 2008
Hi Anonymous – the Devany Square opening was pushed back because there were some defects that the contractor was working to fix. I’ll check to see if we have an updated opening date.
Thx, John Z.

Hello Anonymous #2 – Devany Square is expected to be open to the public by the first week of September. The contractor is working through a few items that need to be addressed before the park can be opened to the public.
I can’t wait to enjoy this 2-acre gem. It looks absolutely beautiful and there will something for folks of all ages to enjoy.
Thx, John Z.

Thanks for checking the opening date and posting an update. It sure looks nice and but somewhat small. I live a few feet away from it, and it does not appear to be 2 acres. Upon opening will it have the water play area for kids, and a rose garden as initially proposed. Is it being built in phases or this is the complete park ?

Hi Anonymous – Devany Square is complete (save for a few punchlist items). There is a water play area for kids that’s integrated into the plaza. The water can be turned off when needed for events.
There are 2 types of roses in the southwest corner of Devany Square…however, it’s not really a full garden.
I can’t wait for the official park dedication on October 4th. Here’s what’s scheduled for the event:

Hopefully, I’ll see you there!

Thanks again for the update with opening date. We’ll be there for the event. Also you can count on two votes from our house in November to put in the Dublin City Council.

I was wondering if you knew anything about what Oracle is buildin on the other side of the freeway? I know it isn’t Dublin, but it is around Dublin. Are they just expanding? I figure the bigger companies that employ more people the better for our area.
9:50 AM on August 28th, 2008
Hi Anonymous – Yes, it is indeed an Oracle project – a five-story office building, mirror-image of the existing building on the same site, and a parking garage.
Thx, John Z.
