Blush Organic Frozen Yogurt | The Best of Dublin, CA Series

by John M. Zukoski  |  Topics:  Local Businesses

As mentioned in this June 18th Around Dublin entry, Dublin has a fantastic assortment of locally-owned businesses. The Best of Dublin, CA Google user-created map (along the right side of the screen) is a testament to the fine shops, restaurants, and services that Dublin offers its residents and visitors. This entry is the first in a series that spotlights the best locally-owned businesses in Dublin.

One of Around Dublin’s “Best of” picks is Blush. Blush is an organic frozen yogurt shop located in the Waterford Shopping Center (along Tassajara Road). It offers an unparalleled product and experience that cannot be found anywhere else in the Bay Area — yet. Blush opened their first shop right here in Dublin and will be opening their next shop in downtown Walnut Creek later this year. Stores in San Ramon and Fremont are also in the plans.

Mr. Jonathan Rim, the owner of Blush Yogurt, decided to open his first shop in Dublin because of the tremendous foot traffic at the Waterford shopping center, the business-friendly Dublin City Staff, and Dublin’s reputation as an upmarket city. The success of Blush is a great illustration of how our City Hall is focused on supporting local businesses.

Blush Yogurt set themselves apart from other frozen yogurt shops by offering yogurt made with organic milk, free Wi-Fi access, music, and a fashionable late-night hangout (open until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 10pm on all other nights). While many of you have probably already visited Blush Yogurt, one thing you may not know is that Mr. Rim wants Blush Yogurt to be an integral part of Dublin’s community. Blush Yogurt, for example, has already made a generous donation to Dublin High School and hired a handful of its students as part of its friendly staff.

Blush Yogurt offers a wide selection of toppings and flavors to its patrons. Soon they will have more yogurt flavors on a monthly rotation. In case you’re wondering, the image above is of one of Around Dublin’s favorites – shaved ice with lemonade topped with “Blush” flavored yogurt (dragon fruit and pomegranate), kiwi fruit, strawberries, lightly sweetened Mochi balls, lychee fruit, and Oreo crumbs. from. What’s your favorite creation?

I love Blush, their product is amazing, but I would like to see the nutritional information posted either at the store or on the website.

Thank you for supporting Blush. We have sent our yogurt to a lab to have it analyzed for nutritional labeling. We should have the nutritional information available at our store and on our website by the end of the month.

I loved the blush flavor, but I wonder if they can succeed without chocolate and other normal flavors.

Thank you so much for your input.

I’m in the process of making next month’s flavor chocolate.

We were big fans of Yogurt Castle, which was there before Blush, and were sad to see it go. As for Blush, the owners were very nice to us and offered us to come and visit before it opened to the public. The free sample, which was plain and without flavor, was disappointing, but that is to be expected for plain yogurt. I’m sure their flavored offerings are great, as evidenced by the big crowds. We do want to go back and try them, but in these tough times, it makes more sense for us to buy 2 cartons of frozen yogurt from Safeway (fat free) for $5 and eat at home. But we’ll be back. We also hope the good business continues in the Winter months ahead, because far fewer people eat frozen treats when it’s cold. We really hope Blush succeeds and doesn’t end up like Yogurt Castle.

Over the four years I lived at Waterford, I have only been to Yogurt Castle three times. Ever since Blush opened in June, I’ve been going once a week. Blush’s non-fat frozen yogurt is not the same as the non-fat soft-serve ice cream Safeway sells. Blush’s yogurt is actually yogurt, frozen, so it offers all the same health benefits of regular yogurt. The plain yogurt really should be mixed in with the wide assortment of toppings Blush offers. I like the flavored yogurt, because they complement the natural sourness of the yogurt base. My favorite flavor is the green tea, but I am in the minority, as it is no longer part of Blush’s regular line-up. Jon the owner said that he may bring it back as a special flavor of the month later on. In the meantime, I am perfectly happy with the Blush signature flavor and the mango flavor. Both can be enjoyed without any topping.

It is very nice to see your finished design work come together nicely. Congrats to everyone at Blush(TM). I had a blast designing your branding for you.

my favorite is the blush shaved ice with mango frozen yogurt with mochi, lychee, coconut, mango and strawberry. We’ve been in there 3 times and each time I’ve been asked what it is and they always comment on how large it is. Worth every yummy penny.

Lychee fruit is the best! It is my favorite summer fruit. I should have asked for it when they had the green tea yogurt — that would have been a combination made in heaven.

    Hi Juliet,
Excellent. I cannot recommend Blush more highly. Please don’t be shy about letting Jonathan, the owner, and his friendly staff know that you are new to Blush, so they may roll out the red carpet for you. They are super generous with their samples, because they want to make sure you find a flavor that you like. Thank you for stopping by!

I want to try to the green tea yogurt, but they don’t sell it anymore. I love blush! It’s my crack.
