East & West BART Station Corridor Enhancement Project
As mentioned back in December 2007, Dublin won $3.4M in Federal grants for planning and approving high-density housing in the East and West Dublin BART station transit villages. These funds will allow Dublin to complete a number of enhancements primarily along Dublin Blvd. In addition to landscaping improvements, here are some of the items to look forward to as part of this project:
- Eternal Ribbon gateway structure – this $580K monument to Dublin will be located on the corner of Dougherty Road and Dublin Blvd. (in front of Dublin Honda). Construction should start in late spring 2009 and be completed by late summer 2009.
- Identity Markers – to help create a consistent theme throughout Dublin, 30 identity markers will be installed between Hansen Drive and Tassajara Road (about one every 600 feet). These 10 1/2 ft. tall identity markers will be made of aluminum and steel.
- Welcome Signs – new granite “Welcome to Dublin” signs will be installed at San Ramon Road and Tassajara Road as a warm greeting to residents and visitors driving into Dublin. Blake Hunt Ventures will also be installing a “Welcome to Dublin” sign in front of their eagerly anticipated The Green on Park Place development.
- Installation/Replacement of Bus Shelters – this is critical given that some bus stops are lacking roofs.
- Widen the Iron Horse-to-Tassajara Creek Bikeway – once completed, this trail will be widened to 12 feet along the north side of Dublin Blvd. This improvement is great news for residents that like to ride or walk through Dublin.
Please contact the Public Works department at 925-833-6630 for more details about this project.

Thank you John for the update. Is there an ETA on the Welcome Signs? I recall a couple of years ago 9 Welcome Signs were identified for the City. Are the remaining 6 after (Tassajara, Hacienda, San Ramon Road) being fazed in as funding becomes avail? Will Dougherty not have one since there will be the Etermal Ribbon structure?
Also what is an Identity Marker, is there a function for mainly for esthetics.

This may be a bit off subject. Will St. Patrick Road be extended (to Regional) or funded through the same source or is this something the city will fund entirely. Is there an ETA on this and also what happens to OSH, Michael’s etc.. as the back of those stores won’t help the extended St. Patrick to become the little main street in Downtown that the West deserves to have. Maybe redevelopment of Dublin Place (Target, Toys R’Us) shopping center with parking structures would open up space to move the row of stores where OSH is over there, it will become pedestrian friendly even for a power center. The current OSH shopping center could become an Office and Retail complex (main street like)

Hi Anonymous – these are great questions. With respect to the welcome signs and identity markers, the signs on Tassajara and San Ramon Road will be installed as part of the overall East/West Dublin BART Corridor project which should start by spring 2009 and complete by summer 2009. The welcome sign at Hacienda will be installed by the developer at The Green on Park Place…so it may not be installed until Q1 2010. On Dougherty, there will be a huge welcome sign installed as part of the Eternal Ribbon gateway structure.
It looks like 3 additional welcome signs are on tap to be installed by 2010 at the San Ramon Road/Alcosta, Village Parkway/Kimball, and Dougherty/Fall Creek entrances to Dublin. Funding would need to be approved for the 2009-2010 fiscal year in order to install these signs.
The developer will be installing a welcome sign to the Schaefer Ranch entrance coming from Castro Valley. Similarly, the City of Dublin will also likely request to have the developer of the Fallon Village property that runs parallel to I-580 construct a welcome sign for folks taking the Fallon Road exit from I-580.
A welcome sign might be installed at the Alameda/Contra Costa border on Tassajara Road…my guess is that the City would ask the developer of Wallis Ranch or maybe Fallon Crossing/Mission Peak to install the sign.
Last but not least, the identity markers have a dual purpose – to be aesthetically pleasing and to also provide a sense of unity/connection throughout the city. The identity markers will convey that common theme along Dublin Blvd.
Thx, John Z.

Hi Anonymous – with respect to the St. Patrick Way question, St. Patrick Way will eventually be extended from Golden Gate Drive to Regional Street. The first 1/3 of St. Patrick Way will be built as part of the Windstar development (starting at Golden Gate Drive and running to the current material pick-up yard behind the Osh) . The last 2/3 will be built as part of the AMB development. Here’s a bit more info related to the Windstar and AMB projects:

I love your vision and excitement for our downtown!

Can’t wait to see that part of town improved, currently it doesn’t look too impressive from I580 compared to across the freeway in Pleasanton. I envy how nice the Safeway building looks compared to the Beking Warehouse and the tired Radisson.
Between you and Sabranti maybe we have the brain power to pull these land owners together and get a downtown district formed and redevelopment can finally happen.
