Weekly Poll: Would You Like to Attend a Community Meeting With Dublin’s Civic Leaders?

The comments from Around Dublin’s readers on the top issues impacting our great community have been infused with passion, incisive analyses, and concern for our city. The Around Dublin Blog is proud to be the host of this fantastic medium for residents and civic leaders to discuss the hopes and dreams we all share for our great city.
As part of our commitment to the community, the Around Dublin Team would like to host a town hall meeting or online chat forum for Dublin’s residents, community advocates, and elected officials to participate in a dynamic discussion about the top issues and questions facing Dublin. These issues include:
- The Dublin Unified School District’s public image
- The viability of a high school in East Dublin
- Dublin’s preference for higher density housing
- Dublin’s strategy to support local businesses in today’s economic climate
- Dublin’s water quality as compared to other Bay Area cities
If there is sufficient interest (i.e. at least 25 residents who are committed to attend), the Around Dublin Team will set up a weekend community meeting in December or January.
This week’s poll question is – Would you like to attend and participate in a community meeting with our civic leaders to discuss the top issues facing Dublin?

John,
Regarding your efforts to set up a meeting with Civic and School Districts folks, there is one challenge to overcome. Because of the Brown Act the full board nor City Council can meet without setting a public meeting. If you get enough people I suggest you can Dr. Hanke at the district office and Joni Patello from the City to handle that. Thanks.

Hi John – thank you for the heads-up. I think that we’d be okay as long as we have no more than one representative from each elected body.

I am for it as long as people promise to stay polite, respectful and professional. Regardless of differences of opinions, we need to be productive and don’t waste anymore time pointing fingers and insulting one another.
This is a new ERA in Dublin with new elected leaders, we as residents have a chance to finally be heard and make the next 8 years more productive and more unified than the previous 8.

Thanks for being open about a town hall meeting. John Z. should be able to moderate the forum and make it civil, polite and orderly. I would suggest having questions and comments sent ahead of time to the panel. In the future, a community online chat room would be ideal. For parents who can’t come due to having to take care of their kids.

Off topic; Valley Times reported some series of burglary in East Dublin. One home was burglarized early morning while homeowners were sleeping. Some cars are being broken in to. Read Valley Times article http://www.contracostatimes.com/search/ci_10948039?IADID=Search-www.contracostatimes.com-www.contracostatimes.com . Keep your neighborhood watch alert high and watch for any suspicious people. Report any suspicious activity to Dublin Police by having their dispatch phone line number handy. The phone number is 925-462-1212. I always use this line than 911. Their response time is excellent. Stop this type of crimes now as it could destroy our community. Be vigilant in watching your neighborhood.

What ever happened to a city forum? I think it is a great idea? What happened to the public funds $1MM fee that the city has decided to embezzel from developers? Did the council ever promise to earmark it for east Dublin?
John, please continue to fight hard for what is right. If you can’t join ‘em, fight ‘em….

Hi Anonymous – we are still planning to host a city forum in February or March. We’re having a scheduling challenge lining up our panel.

I think Kevin’s comment about cutting and pasting was really referring to what Kasie did here. No value added what’s so ever.
