Upcoming Dublin School Board Discussions

The Dublin Unified School District (DUSD) Board of Trustees will be meeting 3 times during the month of January. All 3 meetings will be held at the District office (7471 Larkdale Aveneue). The School Board will be discussing critical issues such as operating budget reductions and the future of Kolb Elementary School:
- January 6th – a work study session starting at 6:30pm to formulate a DUSD operating budget reduction plan. The Kolb Elementary School strategy will be discussed as part of this study session since the opening of a new school would have an impact on the DUSD’s operating budget.
- January 15th – this is the standard “2nd Tuesday” Board meeting except that it has been pushed back to Thursday. Residents are encouraged to attend and comment on the Kolb Elementary School proposals. The meeting will start at 6:30pm.
- January 27th – there will be two parts to this meeting. The first will be a work study session to discuss the “Single Plan for Student Achievement” from 4-6pm. After that, the Board will hold their regularly scheduled meeting starting at 6:30pm. The Board will make their decision on the Kolb Elementary School opening during this meeting. Residents are highly encouraged to be present for comment.
Please feel free to contact the Dublin Unified School District (DUSD) office at 925-828-2551 for more information.

John,
This is an excellent re-cap of the month of January. Thanks for your efforts. I didn’t see the Jan. 6meeting on the district web-site. Is it true and where did you hear about it? How/when was the District planning on telling everyone about it? Thanks again and keep up the great job!

Hi Anonymous – thank you very much for the kind words.
I pulled the meeting dates from the DUSD’s separate meeting schedule website at http://dublin.csbaagendaonline.net/cgi-bin/WebObjects/dublin-eAgenda.woa
Thx, John Z.

Thanks, John. I had to scroll down to see the text where they listed it. I am not sure when they posted that. Do you talk to any of the other board members? I don’t care for Ledahl. He seems to be self serving and not very helpful unless he is trying to further his own agenda. Not only did I not vote for him but I had to stop from laughing at him during the last school board meeting.
But he does post and the others don’t. What do you think about the others? Would you consider running for the school board? You seem very helpful.

FYI.
Like most special meetings it was rapidly put together to address a particular issue. The January 6th special school board meeting was called to bring the board, especially new board members, up to speed on what the district did earlier for funding cuts this year based on loss of funds from the state. The board will follow a similar process for mid-year cuts and cuts for next year with a new Financial Advisory Committee assembled, made up of reps from parents, teachers, community, staff, and adminstration stakeholders. There will be many meetings, both board and committee, over the next few months to address this severe fiscal crisis. As always, there was no secretive motive for the meeting nor the late announcement of it.

Oops! Forgot to put my name on the previous post. John B. Ledahl

Hi Anonymous on December 29, 2008 7:28 PM – I try to be helpful whenever possible, but there are far more qualified candidates than me to serve on the school board.
Thx, John Z.

HHHmmm… I watched the last school board meeting Mr. Ledahl and it was clear that you opposed a special meeting to discuss the budget crisis. You seemed to oppose almost anything the others wanted. Maybe that is why they don’t post here – because you do.
You are right (sort of), there was a special meeting to bring the new members up to speed but the district calendar on the website lists it as Dec 15.
So, now that John Z brings out the date you come out with some info.
I am glad that the rest of the board didn’t listen to you or we would never have that meeting.
Thanks John Z for bringing this to our attention.

I hope everyone is planning to attend the Jan 6 meeting. Perhaps there we can get specific information on how to attend and participate. We need to make sure they build Kolb so we are not so overcrowded. See John Z other posting – overcrowded by as much as 450 students?

Tomorrow’s Special Board meeting can be found on the district website under School Board Agendas. Here is the specific one for tomorrow: http://dublin.csbaagendaonline.net/cgi-bin/WebObjects/dublin-eAgenda.woa/wa/showMeeting
There will be a board workshop at 6:30 PM whose purpose is to discuss the assembling of the budget committee called Financial Advisory Committee. Here the board will review and discuss the process to be used for addressing the creation of a budget in the face of state cuts.
This will be followed by the actual meeting where two topics will be discussed. First is a review of the Board Meeting Schedule and Board Room Useage for 2009. Second is Measure L Citizens Oversight Committee – Selection Process and Guidelines.
Hope this helps.

Looks like there is one meeting on the district web-site and not two. If we want to hear or comment about Kolb Elementary should we show up at 6:30 or at the second meeting – if there is a second meeting as Mr. Ledahl says? This is confusing or what?

One meeting broken up into a work study session and a special board meeting. It appears Public Comment is after the work study session. Here is the link to the agenda for tomorrow’s meeting.

Please allow me to clear up tonights meeting. It is technically one meeting. Workshops are typically separate meetings. Tonight we start with a workshop then go into two formal agenda items.
You should also know that Kolb Elem. will NOT be a highlighted topic tonight, but will be at the next scheduled regular meeting. As stated above in another comment, the workshop is setting a budget review process and the two items are board meeting procedures and Measure L advisory committee structure. Hope that clarifies.
