by John M. Zukoski  |  Topics:  Things To Do

The Around Dublin blog hosted a training on March 29th to teach Tri-Valley citizens how to leverage various social media tools like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Yelp and blogs to engage and influence local government and business. Over 30 residents packed the Elan Community Room to ask questions and engage in the workshop conducted by local social media enthusiasts and early visionaries Adriel Hampton, George Millington, and Jonathan Fleming.

The presentation covered many topics including:

  • Nuts and bolts – why social media is important and basic terminology like “tweet” and “hashtag”.
  • How to sign-up and use popular social media tools like Twitter and Facebook.
  • The value and opportunities presented by using products like Google Alerts, Twitter, Facebook, and Yelp.
  • Politicians and groups that use various social media products.

Concord city council member Mark Peterson attended the workshop and noted in closing remarks that President Obama’s campaign success illustrated the value and importance of citizens and politicians utilizing social media tools like Facebook and Twitter to build cohesive and collaborative networks. Dublin’s own Mayor Tim Sbranti has also recently created a website and Facebook page to improve the interactive communication process with residents.
