I agree with you David that many of the city’s leadership can benefit from some management coaching/guidance. Much of the planning was shortsighted.

Sprawl… suburban sprawl. How many empty fields are between retail sites? Assuming Fallon Gateway is a huge success, we’re inviting people to a region of our city that looks like cr*p. Fenced off lots, litter all over the lot across from Grafton Station (which the owners appear to be using for storage and dumping). Where are the standards and clauses for land owners who could not develop? Who’s enforcing them? Lots near BART look kept, lots in Ranch area not so much. Besides do we need another strip mall? Let me guess what’s going around the Target, a starbucks, a nail salon, a sandwich place, a bank – another stip mall.

We have a ghost town residential complex on Dublin and Dougherty, No man’s land around the BART, fenced off properties all around the Ranch area. I was born and raised in Sunnyvale, so perhaps I’m a snob coming from a city that won awards for it’s planning, and which Fremont later consulted when growing… but I’m thinking the planners here — their big picture — is too big. Blame it on the economy, but where was plan B? Plan C? Where was the common sense to build out from center?

And yes, parking is scarce in the Ranch areas. But all these pretty parks…. well, they don’t call them “park” for nothing, pull right up, just watch out for kids.

Lastly, since we’re critiquing the city. Bike lanes in this city are dangerous! Bike lane on Tassajara disappears onto freeway, that whole overpass is bad on a bike both directions. Bike lane on Dublin Ave. disappears once you cross Dublin Ct. You’d think in a city that has BART, instead of building a huge, under-used parking garage, they’d encourage people to get to BART by alternative means….by making it safe to ride a bike to BART.

Hi Anonymous on June 4, 2009 8:26 AM - this is fantastic news. Fallon Gateway will be a shopping center that the residents of Dublin can be proud of and enjoy for years to come. It will be wonderful to have a Greatland Target so close by, as well.

A target date of 2011 seems attainable. The key will be for Pleasanton to connect Stoneridge Drive so that Dublin Blvd. can be opened up between Lockhart Street and Fallon Road.

John, I was reading the planning commision notes for Fallon Gateway, and Mr. Tong said that Target will go forward with the project based on economic numbers in the rest of this year, and that Dublin and Norther California is at the top of Targets expansion. They also set a planned date of 2011. Here are the minutes attached. Read the top paragraph.
This could be good news.

I am a resident of Dublin Ranch and all I can say is DUBLIN RANCH NEEDS MORE GUEST PARKING, I repeat, DUBLIN RANCH NEEDS MORE PARKING!! Right now, the high density housing and parking situation is an eyesore, devaluing our property values, and a headache for the residents who live here. So, PLEASE, someone have the developer address the parking concerns here.
