Blush Turns One

by John M. Zukoski  |  Topics:  Local Businesses

It has been one year since Blush opened their first store right here in Dublin at the Waterford Shopping Center. After establishing a premier fro-yo experience in Dublin, Blush is looking to expand on their success by opening new shops in Milpitas, San Francisco (next to the AT&T Park), and Burlingame.

In addition to providing a superior fro-yo experience, Blush has also become an integral and valuable member of the Tri-Valley community by providing complimentary fro-yo for school fundraisers, hosting mommy and play group gatherings, contributing to various community efforts, and providing jobs for many Tri-Valley high school kids.

One way to get a feel for the impact that Blush has made in just one year is to look at what customers and fans are saying on social media sites. On Yelp, Blush’s customers have written 267 reviews and given an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars. In comparison, a national treasure like the White House in Washington D.C. has only garnered 65 reviews and 3 stars! Blush has also established a strong presence on Facebook with 235 fans that engage and interact by posting Blush photos, participating in polls, and sharing news about Blush’s new offerings and upcoming fundraisers.

Blush is yet another Dublin success story. Other cities like Milpitas, San Francisco, and Burlingame may soon have their own Blush store, but the flagship store will always be here in Dublin.

"Fro-yo??" Is this the exact moment in time in which Around Dublin jumped the shark?

Just kidding, John. Congrats to Blush. They deserve a lot of praise, because its predecessor, Yogurt Castle, was MUCH, MUCH better in terms of product quality. Blush yogurt, to me, isn't very good, but obviously I'm in the minority and the success speaks for itself. I just wonder how well Yogurt Castle would be doing if they had the same marketing skills that Blush's owners have.

I just dont get it! My husband and I went there and the staff was rude and I was not a fan of the four flavors they offered. I love the yogurt place downtown livermore or tcby in pleasanton. Maybe I just went on a bad day?

Tcby is much sweeter, with artificial flavors like white chocolate mocha, and I think has a more kid-based target audience as an ice cream substitute. I love the tart flavors at blush, but when I want sweet candy stuff, I'd rather go to Ben & Jerrys.

    Hi Anonymous June 10, 2009 9:51 AM,

I am sorry to hear that you did not have a pleasant experience when you visited Blush. We can say without hesitation that our personal experiences with Blush is consistent with the overwhelmingly positive responses Blush has received from Yelp reviews. Our recommendation is that if you feel like you did not get the best service from Blush for whatever reason, please give Blush a chance to set things right by contacting their customer service. We know for a fact that Jonathan the owner, like many other successful entrepreneurs, is obsessed with customer satisfaction. Thank you.

Sorry, previous poster, but I have to 100% disagree with you on the Yogurt Castle comment. Every time I would go in there, the yogurt was terrible! If you sell frozen yogurt, you better make sure it's actually frozen, and mine was nearly melted every single time. Sure, Blush is a different type of frozen yogurt, but I've gotten used to it now and actually really enjoy it.

For the best priced item, get the Parfait for $4.25.

    Congrats to Blush.
Not everyone can be pleased with good quality yogurt, Its organic not like the buffet selfserve so called froyo.
I wish every business owner was like Jonathan. He truely cares about his customers. Hes not the type to sell u the week old toppings or day old bread just to save a couple of cents.

    Way to go John!

I know u will do well with the new locations.

We really appreciate all the support from our customers, the community and Around Dublin. It’s been an awesome year, and it’s all due to you. We always appreciate customer feedback, so please let us know how we can improve. Within the next week or so, we’ll be announcing a free yogurt day to thank our customers and celebrate our one-year anniversary. I’m in the process of working out the details but I will keep you posted.

    Thanks!

Exactly, that's what made Yogurt Castle so great! I love frozen yogurt that is slightly melted. Whenever I have frozen yogurt at home, I heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds, at least. Yogurt Castle's product was out of this world.

Blush is an outstanding success, but I just don't get it. I was told to come in for a free full serving of yogurt once, but when I got there, the owner was gone and the server gave me the same tiny free sample that everyone else was getting. And it tasted bad. I'm a health conscious guy, but I just can't take that stuff. On the rare occasions we go out for frozen yogurt, we'll take TCBY over Blush any day of the week, or even that self serve place in Danville. We had such high hopes for Blush before it opened, because we live down the street and it would be awesome to have a cool yogurt place so close to home. Then we tasted it. No thanks.

But obviously a lot of people like it, so what does it matter. I'll never watch a second of American Idol, yet look at what the #1 show is.

Hey, at least we agree on the American Idol thing….I don't "get" that show, either!

Blush is truly one of the best froyo places in the bay area. In addition, the owner is super nice and really cares about his business and customers. He was there the first time we went to Blush and we were really impressed by the service.

You can't really compare Blush to something like TCBY. Blush yogurt is meant to be tart as opposed to ice-cream like.

Hi Anonymous on June 11, 2009 7:28 AM – I totally agree. I’ve tried the mom and pop fro-yo places where they all get their product from the same distributor, I’ve tried Pinkberry and thought that their fro-yo tasted like it was made with powdered milk and water, and I tried Yolatea in Pleasanton and…well take a look on Yelp to see what I thought of their product. TCBY is essentially ice cream and devoid of the nutritional value that Blush’s organic fro-yo provides.

    Thx, John Z.

Our family loves Blush! Our only complaint is that we wish you are open a little longer on weekends =) Every now and then we have a late night craving for some of that delicious creamy tartness.

Before Blush came along there was not a good froyo place nearby. Crazy as it sounds, but we would drive all the way to Cupertino to Yougurtland. Since Blush came along, we find the texture to be much better. Would be nice to see more flavor combinations, but we are still very happy with Blush.

Best of luck with your expansion!

Congratulations, Blush. My husband and I are big fans of your Dublin store, and we are thrilled to see that our friends on the peninsula will get the chance to experience for themselves the wonderful frozen treat we've been enjoying all year long.

With all the recent stories about local store closures and global economic malaise, I am happy to see that we have own beacons of hope that include Blush, Extreme Pizza, and Pandigital right here in Dublin. Thanks for focusing on the positive news, Around Dublin. We need more success stories like these.

I think it's funny that the same people who are saying how unhealthy TCBY is are the same people who eat the extremely fattening Extreme Pizza.

And Blush isn't so healthy when you top it with all those chocolate chips and syrup.

Extreme Pizza actually does some very healthy pizzas. You can get whole wheat crust, soy or no -cheese, pesto or fresh tomato sauce, plenty of veggies. Nothing wrong health-wise there. And Blush offers fresh fruit, nuts and other very healthy toppings. Plus there froyo as far less sugar and isn't full of chemical fillers like many of the others.

I get the feeling that some posters, esp Love Melting Froyo guy are just trying to get a rise out of people.

Blush by far is my favorite frozen yogurt place. Being from southern California (mecca of frozen yogurts), I have very high standards. In my opinion, blush is the best frozen yogurt place in the bay area. Trust me, I tried them all.

I love the fact that they keep that place so clean considering how much traffic they get. I generally never use any public bathrooms unless it's an emergency, however the bathroom is almost always spotless.

The service is remarkable and love that fact that the staff walks around and offers free drinks or asks if we would like some more toppings. You get get service like that anymore.

    Good luck to blush!

LOL! He could have been a teenager. Well, let's hope….

Blush is far my favorite froyo place. Also on a personal level, I think the owner is really a nice guy. I heard that he is a teacher as well. I want to see a teacher do well as it's a joke what teachers get paid in the bay area these days.

Anyways, good luck John and I know you will do well in other location.
