Farewell Stacey’s at Waterford and Wok’s Up

The Around Dublin Team would like to bid farewell to two beloved Dublin restaurants. Both have been an important part of Eastern Dublin’s development, and both will be missed.
Stacey’s at Waterford
As many Dublin residents may have heard, Stacey’s at Waterford (on Tassajara Road) closed last week. This is unfortunate for Dilbert creator, philanthropist, and restaurateur Scott Adams and the employees of Stacey’s at Waterford; however, Stacey’s departure provides a fantastic opportunity for an entrepreneur with vision and the City of Dublin because:
- The new tenant will not need to pay the water and sewer hook-up fees that Stacey’s had to pay (directly or indirectly) when they moved in to the Waterford plaza. The savings could be anywhere from $200K-$400K depending on the estimated water usage.
- The main entrance *could potentially* be reconfigured to be more prominently displayed to take advantage of the visibility from Tassajara Road. This would benefit the tenant and the City of Dublin in increased sales and sales tax revenue.
Thank you to Villas resident Elliott Edge for suggesting these opportunities.
Wok’s Up
Wok’s Up has been sold to another business. Former owners Ted and Annie Lee recently sold Wok’s Up to a Danville-based restaurateur after receiving numerous offers

Stacey’s was never very good in terms of the food, but the bar was pretty happening and the only place in the area that we have (B-dubs is a little less fancy so I don’t consider it the same)– Fuzio’s is good though, and they have great food and appetizers so we’ll have to move our cocktail group over to Fuzios… Stacey is a great person though so it’s sad to see her have to close this location–
I never went to Wok’s Up. I just don’t frequent that small strip mall much- I hate to say it but I bet Wok’s Up would still be around (and would be busy) if they were at Grafton Station..

Sorry to hear about Stacey’s and Wok’s Up. Stacey’s had decent food and so so service. Regardless it was an asset to Dublin and The Waterford Shopping Center to have an Upscale Tenant to anchor the restaurant scene. I am puzzled though how the front entrance was oriented to an alley, away from the highly visible corner on the Tassajara side. The Dark Tinted Windows made the place look not too inviting, it does not say come on in. The Stacey’s sign was also too dimly lit at night so it did not draw any attention. I frequent Waterford and their restaurants regular but most time overlook that Stacey’s was even there. Opportunity now would be for the landlord to move Jeni’s Nail next to Togo’s or Madfish or the former Scentual location. This will allow a larger restaurant to occupy the former Stacey’s spot and expand to the Jeni Nails suite for a larger upscale restaurant like an Il Fornaio or an Uncle Yu’s.
As for Wok’s Up, that shopping center was poorly planned with a horrible mix of retailers that will not draw from near or far. On the weekend with the Dental Offices and Bank Closed, that center is like a Ghost town. Unless you need eye glasses, an expensive hair cut or a tan there isn’t much reason to go there on the Weekend. The center needs something like a TJ or Fresh N’ Easy to bring in the foot traffic or even an Aaron Brother’s or Walgreens to a a lesser extent, give residence a reason to stop by. With the UV Video Store and the Photo Studio Closed, maybe the landlord can move a few tenants around to accummulate enough vacant space and combine them into one larger suite to accommodate a larger tenant that can draw people into the center.

I’m hoping we can get some new, exciting dining options!

I’ve had Wok’s Up for to go before. The food was just OK but not worth the price so needless to say, I never went there again ever since.

Why is Chinese Food so expensive here. I hope we can get some place which sells Chinese Food at Chinatown prices.

John had a great answer from an earlier article to this specific question. All new restaurants in new buildings have to pay a one–time water/sewer hookup fee – unless the building owner wishes to expand the water meter size and/or increase the estimated volume of sewage (the “average” restaurant example in the article assumed a 1″ meter and 2,420 gallons of sewage/day). The higher price you noted is the direct result of this one–time water/sewer hookup fee. For a more complete explanation, please follow the link below to John’s complete response:

The closest you’ll get is 99 Ranch in Dublin or Lion Market in Fremont. The food is more expensive here because the supermarket chains have higher rent and are probably monitored regularly by the health department and city!
I’m not saying anything that people didn’t already think to themselves about Chinatown markets — they’re not exactly the cleanest or most sanitary places.

Wok’s Up was way overpriced for what you get. I went there for lunch once and was very disappointed. I never went back and I am glad that somebody else has taken over their space.

Glad to hear Stacey’s is closed. Over priced bad food and average service was not worth it. I’ve been there enough to take out clients, but it was always the same, lousy. Maybe someone who knows about the restaurant business will take the spot.

I was always underwhelmed at Stacy’s. And, the decor seemed depressing. But, the location and hook up cost savings will make it a very attractive location. I hope that an upscale steak house will go in. Sorry, we have enough Asian and Indian restaurants.

Word has it that Stacy’s pulled out since their rent was going up to 30k month from 25k. I’d pull out too. Greedy landlords suck!

Regarding getting a steak house or something besides Indian or Asia I absolutely agree. I love Indian and Asian cuisine – but I mean come on – there are so many other options, and Dublin seems to have gotten pigeon holed into a community that only offers two types of cuisine. We need a little more San Francisco, and a little less San Jose to represent the eclectic nature of our community.

Hi , I am sorry to hear that we lost Wok’s Up ! It’s a wonderful place with an unique Asian menu. The whole Wok’s UP crews were so friendly and they always do the right jobs to satisfy customer’s need. If anyone wants to contact the owner, here is their email address tedannielee@msn.com I believe they will like to keep in touch with their loyal customers.

I agree with DublinMike. While we all like Asian and Indian food, we need more variety. Our town has some great oppotunities and choice locations for such restaurants. Even for casual dinning we could use a Claim Jumper or BJ’s.

I 100% agree – stop the madness – we don’t need anymore asian restaurants.
