Indian and Afghan Establishments in Dublin
Dublin is a wonderfully diverse community with residents and business owners from all walks of life. One illustration of this diversity can be found in Dublin’s booming Indian and Afghan restaurant and shop sector. A search on Yelp shows about 10 Indian and Afghan establishments in Dublin. Here are some of Around Dublin’s favorite Indian and Afghan businesses:
- Citrus Indian Fusion – Citrus is located at 6830 Village Parkway and prepares a delightful assortment of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The Chicken Wrap is a deliciously refreshing combination of Indian spices and citrus juices. The dosa is the size of a large pizza and the accompanying sauces are fantastic.
- Sahara Market - located near City Hall on Dublin Blvd., Sahara Market has been an extremely successful purveyor of groceries, lunch dishes (the kabobs are a hit), and books, CDs, and DVDs. Word is that Sahara’s prepared foods business has done so well that they plan to open a separate restaurant in Dublin.
- Cafe Tazza – the Around Dublin Team has received numerous recommendations to enjoy Cafe Tazza’s delectable Indian snacks, treats, and conveniently prepared Indian food. Perhaps the best illustration of their popularity is the abundance of customers filling Dublin Corners shopping center to visit Cafe Tazza’s store.
- Dosa Place – the newest Indian restaurant in Dublin is a long time favorite in Fremont, Milpitas, and Santa Clara. Dosa Place is packed at lunch and the waiting area is more crowded at noon than a Mumbai intersection during rush hour. You may want to go early for lunch to beat the rush.
- Royal Afghan Cuisine – a Yelp favorite with nearly 50 reviews and an average rating of 4 stars. Royal Afghan is tucked away in the southwest corner of the Almond Plaza on Regional Street.

Sahara Market is Afghan and not Indian. Not sure if it makes a difference.

Hi Anonymous – good call, my bad. I took this opportunity to expand the scope of the article to include both Indian and Afghan establishments.
Thx, John Z.

I absolutely love Citrus! The Chicken Tikka Masala with Garlic Naan is to die for! I have this at least once a week. They are really good with take out orders too – I will call my order in and it is always ready when I walk in the door.

Thanks for the recommendation, Anonymous. Some of us on the Team still have not had the chance to check out Citrus. We will get the Chicken Tikka Masala with Garlic Naan, when we check out this highly recommended restaurant for ourselves.

Citrus is great. I get the butter chicken like once a week. If they use fresh chicken, it’s awesome. But once I had it with chicken that was a little dry… But regardless, it’s very good.

Citrus is actually a very good restaurant. It used to look a little shabby, but recently they have updated the interior, including the flooring, paint, lighting, tables, and chairs (probably to keep up with the newer Doasai Place up the street). It’s quite popular with the South Indian community in the Tri-valley since they serve good dosas, and you’ll often see the place packed with Indian families at dinner – a good sign of a quality Indian restaurant. There’s no lunch buffet, but in my opinion I don’t miss it. If you get the daily thali special (meat or vegetarian) you will get a lot of food and enough variety.
If you want a lunch buffet there really isn’t that much to choose from in Dublin itself. People rave about Chef India in Pleasanton, but I consider it a so-so buffet… not really fresh tasting and just average, in spite of the large selection. The newer Sannidi on Gibralter in Pleasanton is a much better buffet.
If you just want a little snack on the weekends, some of the Indian grocery stores around here serve chaat (snacks like samosas, aloo tiki, and bhelpuri). India Plaza on Dougherty Road next to Denicia’s has a chaat counter in the back on the weekends. It’s pretty good for the Tri-valley, and worth a try. If you want more of a sit-down place for chaat, then try Cafe Tazza on Dublin Blvd. next to Tomatina.
