Dublin is a community replete with a balance of older and newer homes, large and small yards, lower density and higher density housing options. Many of Dublin’s newer homes have extra bedrooms and/or powder rooms in exchange for smaller yards. This presents a unique slate of potential home and garden improvement ideas. Here are just a few to consider:

Landscaping Ideas

Japanese Garden – this type of garden is flexible and can be adapted to large and small yard spaces. The key is to tailor your Japanese garden to the space that you have available and to only use items found in nature. Please click here for directions to construct a traditional Japanese garden.

Rock Garden – a rock garden is a great way to handle a sloping rear yard or to artfully plant any hillside. Rock gardens showcase the natural beauty both of stone and plants. A well-constructed rock garden will look as if it has been there forever, especially once the rocks are clothed in care-free plants. Container Garden – a container garden is perfectly suited for townhouses or condos that don’t have private yards. You can cultivate all types of herbs, vegetables, flowers, and other plants right on your patio. Here’s an article on Container Gardening 101.

House Projects and Ideas

Powder Room – revamping a powder room can be a relatively simple project involving four main steps: 1) get a sense of your home’s style; 2) select a reputable contractor; 3) select the sink, faucet, and toilet at Lowe’s; and 4) schedule a day off from work to supervise the work. Here is more information on designing your powder room.

Small Space With Big Style – do you have an extra bedroom that you’d like to turn into a retreat or maybe a living room with limited space but enormous potential? Here is some expert advice for making the most of a small space in your home.

What are some other projects that are ideally suited for Dublin’s homes? Please leave a comment or email arounddublin@gmail.com with ideas.

I just got a backyard like that and it only cost me $10…. Here’s how I did it:

Buy some sunglasses like these: http://www.betterware.co.uk/images/products/large/018683.jpg

Then, print out the picture on this story… carefully cut the picture so that it fits inside your sunglasses main viewing area and put the sunglasses on– Sit back on a loungechair (if your yard has room for one), grab a Pina Colada and enjoy…
