CRIME PREVENTION ALERT

BULLETIN DATE:         August 14, 2009

TYPE OR REPORT:       PC 459R, Residential Burglary

LOCATION:                     2800 block Southwind Lane; 4900 block Royal Pines; 5600 block W. Cog Hill Terrace; 2800 block Sugar Hill Terrace

CONTACT:                       Val Ridad, Community Safety Assistant, Dublin Police     (925) 833-6670

Within the last month, several homes in the North Dublin Ranch community have been the targets of residential burglary.  In most incidences there were no occupants at the time of the burglaries, with the exception of one case where the homeowner was working in an upstairs office when he was alerted by a knocking at the door.  By the time he retreated downstairs, the suspects had fled in a blue Saturn.  They had apparently been in the home and he noticed the dining room window removed and dirt tracks on the carpet.

Potential suspects in another case used a rented U-Haul truck to remove large items from a home that had just been purchased.  Neighbors were unable to provide further descriptions of either the individuals or the truck.

Residents are advised to be on the lookout for vehicles that either appear to be driving around aimlessly, parked with occupants in one area for long periods of time, or do not seem to belong in the neighborhood.  Residents are also encouraged to report unknown persons exhibiting suspicious behavior, such as furtive glances, peeking through windows, and walking to/from rear yards.  Obtaining as much information about vehicles (make, model, color, license plate #, direction of travel) and individuals (height, weight, hair, scars, marks, tattoos, clothing, etc.) is critical to police investigations should a crime occur.

The Crime Prevention Unit encourages residents to form a Neighborhood Watch on their street to foster community awareness and persuade neighbors to look out for one another and report suspicious activity or vehicles.   If residents are interested in forming Neighborhood Watch, contact Community Safety Assistants Val Ridad at 925-833-6677, or Laura Correa-Hernandez at 925-833-6686.

Immediately report any suspicious persons or activity to the police.
