The West Dublin BART station grand opening will be pushed out once again. The new opening date is tentatively set for sometime during the first half of 2011. The West Dublin station had initially been scheduled to open by the end of 2009 or early 2010.

The latest delay is due to defective welds on the walkways that will be crossing over I-580. While the multi-million dollar walkway welds are defective by both BART and Caltrans standards, the subcontractor that was awarded the job is refusing to accept responsibility. The delay of the West Dublin BART station is yet another hurdle that Dublin needs to clear in order to revive the flagging downtown area.

What is BART’s response to the latest delay? “We don’t know what happened.” I don’t know about you, but I feel pretty good about the extra 0.5% of sales tax that that we’ve been paying for the past few decades to build the new station.

This is ridiculous. They should be suing the subcontractor to make them responsible for the faulty welds. Does it really take a whole year to weld a walkway anyhow? I’m sure it has more to do with the poor money management that is BART.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I read somewhere that they are not just re-welding the beams. For safety sake, they are going to rebuild the walkway from start; thus the reason for another year.

As previously mentioned, BART should sue the subcontractors.

The West Dublin BART Station is such a waste of money. Absolutely no need for a station so close to the current Dublin/Pleasanton Station. I love Stoneridge Mall. I would hate to see it turn into another Bayfair.

I agree with the Anonymous @ 10:31 AM on August 14th, 2009. The West Dublin station seems to be located so close to the current Dublin/Pleasanton station. The argument hasn’t made any sense to me but ,oh well, the decision has been made.

This sucks, this means my delayed commute is pushed out for another year. Great!

When the West Dublin / Pleasanton BART Station opens in late 2010, Downtown Dublin will become an Asian Business District.

Well I for one applaud the new station because most of what I go to Dublin for is on the West side, Stoneridge included. And what exactly is meant by “turning into another bayfair?” Afraid that too many of “unwanted shoppers” aren’t like you? Shame, I thought there was enough diversity in the Bay Area that racism was more subdued. I guess I was wrong about that.

Really, this station will serve Dublin/Pleasanton well. It’ll bring economy to the region which in these times, is needed.
