Dublin Celebrates Many Recent Wins

Dublin residents and businesses have much to celebrate as our fine city has had a flood of good news in the past few months. Here are some of the great things that have been happening in Dublin:
Thanks to Measure C, DHS boasts one of the best public high school football stadiums in the state and opened the much celebrated Math and Science complex in November of last year. The magic continues at DHS with the new humanities building under construction and the new library and gymnasium not far behind.
New and Expanded Business
Dublin has scored a few notable large businesses as a direct result of Dublin’s sales tax reimbursement program:
- New Home Inc. will soon occupy the 28,000 sq. ft. site formerly occupied by Good Guys – providing a much needed boost for the downtown area. New Home will offer over 200,000 eco-friendly products for customers looking for a green alternative to Home Depot or Lowe’s.
- Graybar Electric inked a 10-year lease at their new site in the 580 Executive Center on Dublin Boulevard. This deal added 50 new jobs to Dublin and will bring in millions of dollars in sales tax revenue over the next 10 years.
- Christopher’s Hair Salon will be expanding their existing operation at Waterford Place by opening a barber shop that caters exclusively to men. They will lease the space formerly occupied by a travel agency.
Dublin Educational Hub
The Las Positas College Dublin Educational Hub will start off with a 4,000 sq. ft. footprint with the potential for expansion as Las Positas College looks to buy or construct a larger satellite campus in Dublin. Las Positas College may offer general education courses, distance learning opportunities, job retraining courses, or move entire programs for specific fields of study to their Dublin campus.
Dublin Real Estate
The number of deals in Dublin has skyrocketed over the past few months from 150 deals closing in May to 250 closing in August. The average median sale price for Dublin has also increased since May. While we’re not back to the halcyon levels of years past, it is encouraging to see such strong demand for Dublin homes.
Great things are happening in Dublin and there is sure to be more good news in the days ahead.

Sounds like great news for Dublin! I’ve got a son who will be at Dublin High in four years so I’m glad to see all the work and new facilities that are being built there.

FYI,
Prices are on the rise on East Dublin townhomes and condos. I have been showing many to my clients and most have multiple offers with prices going as much as $100,000 above asking. This is a very good sign!

Hi John – thank you for sharing the good news. That’s music to our ears!
Thx, John Z.

Seriously, $100K above asking price? That’s unreal! It’s about time things started turning around. Now that a new high school has been announced for East Dublin, you must be even more stoked about the housing market over there. But we live in West Dublin, so we don’t care so much about home prices in the east. Since you are a realtor, maybe you can tell me if home values in West Dublin are also rebounding?
Thanx

Dana,
Yes, prices in all of Dublin are starting to slowly move up on townhomes/condos. East Dublin’s rise is sharper as the homes are much newer, driving higher demand. I live in West Dublin and can see movement in my own community.

Sweet! Just think how prices are going to react now that East Dublin is getting its own high school! Now we won’t have to move to Pleasanton!

Tomorrow will be better! Thanks for the summary.

Dublin High School’s API score = 842. That is a HUGE increase from last year’s 798 (I think that’s what it was). Just an update.

Hi Anonymous,
What is your source? Thank you.

I work there. It was announced at a staff meeting this afternoon.

Thank you, Anonymous. We appreciate your sharing this exciting data with us. This increase in API score definitely qualifies as a recent win.

I see the results on greatschools.net now. This is great news. Congrats to DHS! I been a supporter of a East Dublin High School, now I am rethinking my position.

To all,
Just to confirm that our school district’s API scores went up for the 8th straight year. It is now at 855, an increaase of 16 points. But thats not the greatest news.
As previously reported on Around Dublin (you scooped us), Dublin High School has gone up 44 points to 842! This despite being challenged with best practices changes to assimilate new graduation equirements, construction on campus for 2 years straight, and a state budget cut that surpassed any in history.
I know people like to compare DHS with other high schools. I don’t because each school has different demographics,, assets, and liabilities. However, when was the last time you saw a Tri-Valley high school shoot up 44 points?
I am so proud of our students, teachers, staff and adminstrators throughout the district.

Just today, as a matter of fact. Granada HS in Livermore shot up 53 points over last year.

John,
Thanks for confirming the 842 API score for Dublin High School. That is really great news! I live near DHS and have been worried that a high school on the east side would cause Dublin High’s API score to drop to an unacceptable level. Because so much great progress has been made at DHS, I’m no longer worried about that. Coincidentally, I just read about the new public high school planned for east Dublin. Now I think it will be great to have two high schools in the city so we can send our kids to the school that seems best for them.

I admit I ignore all the posts and comments on high schools, so pardon me for saying this is the first I’ve ever heard of this on the board. Nonetheless, this is GREAT news. I know how many people care about this, so it’s great to hear. Doesn’t affect me personally but it affects my home value, and that’s always a good thing.

I think two high schools in a city the size of Dublin is completely unwarranted. Let’s just keep closing West side schools so we can build bigger and better in the East. We have enough budget issues to deal with and too many programs getting cut at the current high school. Is building another high school really the answer? Programs will be scaled back and opportunities reduced, unless the taxpayers are willing to finance even more bonds. When will it end?
