Tassajara Prep Day on the Glen Contest Winners Announced

Tassajara Preparatory High School hosted a contest at their Day on the Glen booth this past weekend that invited folks to guess the number of round-trip traffic signals between Lorenzo Court in east Dublin (in the magnificent Positano community) and Dublin High School. There are 61 total traffic signals from Lorenzo Court to Dublin High School: 31 going to Dublin High School and 30 on the return trip. The extra traffic signal is at Sybase Drive.
While none of the contest participants were able to guess 61 traffic signals right on the nose, three participants guessed 60 and another three participants guessed 62. With the six-way tie, all six tickets were thrown into a hat with five winning tickets randomly chosen. The first ticket randomly selected won the Grand Prize, the second ticket selected won the first 2nd place prize, etc. Here are the winning tickets:
- Grand Prize: $100 Blush Gift Card – 621631 (C. Hong with 62 traffic lights)
- 2nd Prize: $25 Extreme Pizza Gift Card and $25 Blush Gift Card – 621593 (L. Silva with 60 traffic lights), 621569 (K. Pond with 60 traffic lights)
- 3rd Prize: $25 Blush Gift Card – 621620 (A. Tsang with 62 traffic lights), 621581 (S. Punnamin with 60 traffic lights)
Here is a graph showing the distribution of the guesses. The median guess was 46 traffic signals.

Winning ticket holders can email admissions@dublinlearning.org to work out a date and time to pickup their prize at Blush Organic Frozen Yogurt in the Waterford Plaza.
Special thanks to Blush Organic Frozen Yogurt and Extreme Pizza for generously donating gift cards for this year’s Tassajara Prep Day on the Glen contest.

And if you go back and forth 10 times it is 610 lights!!! However, some on this blog have already stated it takes them – on the average – 10 to 15 minutes in the morning to get to Dubln High School, regardless of how many lights.

That person would be me. I live in Dublin Ranch and drive my daughter to school most mornings (sometimes she takes the Dublin High bus provided by Wheels which makes stops throughout Dublin Ranch). As per my note the drive is 10-12 minutes. Timed it and posted the exact times I left my house and arrived in front of Dublin High earlier this week. I didn’t make anything up as your post implies.
I go Tassajara and then cut across Gleason before heading down to Dublin Blvd. Traffic has been a non-issue.
Curious – do you drive to Dublin High every morning and have a different experience? I know there is a perception about Dublin High being far away but that is simply not reality. Dublin is tiny – nothing is far away including the high school.

Wow! I lose. I guessed a lot less than 61 traffic signals. That’s a lot of possible red lights. It would be 122 signals every day to drive my daughter to the high school and pick her up in the afternoon. They said it doesn’t include all the stop signs on the way, so that’s even more stops. I guess they tried to find the worst case today, but when the rest of east Dublin is built, new buyers will have even more lights and stop signs.
I guess if you repeat “Dublin is tiny” enough times, some people will start believing you. Just like repeating “Iraq was responsible for 9/11″. But Dublin is not tiny, and it is still growing. Most people are smart enough to see it is a very long distance from one side of Dublin to the other, and both sides are separated by a narrow piece of land in the middle with only one road going through it. That is very poor planning.

My son rides the bus to school and back with a bunch of his friends. He loves taking public transportation and has refused my offiers to drive him to the high school.

If you used Gleason or the freeway, that’d cut down on lights!

Here is the exact route I’ve been taking since school started from my house in Dublin Ranch that takes 10-12 minutes. This isn’t mythical, this isn’t conjecture, this is fact. 17 stop lights, 4 stop signs. 6 miles door-to-door. Of the stop lights the majority are minor (meaning they are intersections to roads with little to no traffic and therefore are almost always green). A few are major intersections (like Dublin Blvd. and Dougherty Rd.).
My commute has been consistently a non-issue with no traffic and it would take a heck of a lot of growth on the East side to change that. There isn’t any room for growth on the West side that would impact this commute (because the minor intersections mostly lead to semi-industrial areas that are built out). A second high school has to be built on the foundation of solving a real problem (capacity, performance, safety) – what real problem is being solved by Tassajara Prep? Haven’t heard a single credible answer to that question yet – still waiting.
Here is the detail of my commute:
- Groveland and N. Dublin Ranch Road (stop sign, right turn)
- N. Dublin Ranch Rd and Antone Way (stop sign, straight)
- S. Dublin Ranch Rd and Tassajara (stop light, left turn)
- Tassajara Rd. and Gleason Dr. (stop light, right turn)
- Gleason Dr. and Creekview Dr. (stop light, straight)
- Gleason Dr. and Hacienda Dr. (stop light, straight)
- Gleason Dr. and Arnold Rd. (stop sign, left turn)
- Arnold Rd. and Central Pkwy. (stop sign, straight)
- Arnold Rd. and Dublin Blvd. (stop light, right turn)
- Dublin Blvd. and Iron Horse Pkwy (stop light, straight)
- Dublin Blvd. and Camp Parks Rd. (stop light, straight)
- Dublin Blvd. and Scarlett Dr. (stop light, straight)
- Dublin Blvd. and Dougherty Rd. (stop light, straight)
- Dublin Blvd. and Dublin Ct. (stop light, straight)
- Dublin Blvd. and Sierra Ct. (stop light, straight)
- Dublin Blvd. and Clark Ave (stop light, straight)
- Dublin Blvd. and Village Pkwy (stop light, right)
- Dublin Blvd. and Lewis Ave (stop light, straight)
- Dublin Blvd. and Amador Valley Blvd. (stop light, straight)
- Dublin Blvd. and Tamarack Dr. (stop light, straight)
- Dublin Blvd. and Brighton Dr. (stop light, straight)
I really am happy to meet in person over a coffee (East, West or Central Dublin) to debate in person. I’m assuming we must be East Dublin neighbors after all – we’ve possibly even met (although I don’t recall anyone with the name of Anonymous). Give me a call at 408-394-6867 – coffee is on me.

We all know commute is the most politically correct argument for an East Dublin high school. Other than that we can agree the commute is bearable.
