November 2009 Crime Report for Dublin, CA
Dublin had an unexpected increase in the number of crimes for the month of November with 143 reported as compared to 136 for the entire month of October. Residents had seen a decrease in the frequency of incidents during the August to October period.
November’s overall increase is entirely due to a nearly 40% increase in reported thefts, while the number of crimes in other categories remains relatively unchanged. Here is the break-down by category for November:
- Stealing: 75 (52% of Total)
- Traffic and Quality of Life: 55 (38% of Total)
- Violence: 13 (9% of Total)
There was a smattering of Breaking & Entering incidents throughout Dublin with a cluster in the Hansen Drive vicinity during mid-November and another cluster in the Creekview Drive area during early November. Please check out CrimeReports.com for more detail.
The Dublin Police Department Crime Prevention Unit encourages residents to form a Neighborhood Watch on their street to foster community awareness and persuade neighbors to look out for one another and report suspicious activity or vehicles. If residents are interested in forming Neighborhood Watch, contact Community Safety Assistants Val Ridad at (925)833-6677, or Laura Correa-Hernandez at (925)833-6686.

I think that we have to look at some of the residents too, I have a storage box that has been messed up with at least 3 times in the last month, I just bougth a gun for the times that i’ll be down there by myself, if I don’t feel safe in the “secured” parking lot, imagine outside.

In addition to neighborhood watch by residents, is it possible to install some security cameras in neighborhood to watch out the crimes (like thefts, burglars, etc)? It is not that expensive to do this kind of stuff these days. We do not need to have someone watch 24/7, but at least when some crimes happened, we could dig out the recordings to find out who committed the crimes.

Hi George,
We apologize for the delay in replying to this excellent question. We had some clarifying questions for the City. As usual, the City responded very quickly, within 24 hours, to all of them. The hold-up in posting our response is entirely on the Around Dublin Team. We would like to thank City Manager Joni Pattillo and Economic Development Director Linda Maurer for their help on the following answer.
The City confirmed that the installation of security cameras within an area overseen by an HOA is really up to the residents and the individual HOAs. The Shannon Center does have security cameras installed. Unfortunately, the City was not able to identify the vandals on Easter 2009 with the help of video footage from those cameras.
