CrimeReports

Tragedy struck Dublin on December 19th when an intoxicated 26 year-old male savagely beat his 20-year old girlfriend and 5-month old daughter. The incident occurred at the 3100 block of Finnian Way. Both mother and daughter were treated at Valley Care Medical Center in Pleasanton. This beating is arguably the most disturbing crime committed in Dublin since the homicide on January 7th, 2009, when 91 year-old Selma Hill was murdered in her home on Peppertree Road.

The number of incidents reported in Dublin spiked during December to 196, compared to 172 during November. This figure represents a 14% increase overall, and below is the break-down of the types of incidents reported in December*:

  • Stealing is down 11% compared to the data from November.
  • Traffic/Quality of Life is up 41% compared to the data from November.
  • Violence is up 57% compared to the data from November.

The Sorrento Clubhouse had their second break-in of the year, when a flatscreen television set was stolen from the gym during the last weekend of December. While the residents were still reeling from the second break-in, the two remaining flatscreen television sets were removed without permission from the gym and stashed in a temporary location during the first week of 2010. Fortunately the residents were able to recover the television sets before the burglars completed the heist. The first break-in back in June was much more severe, when every single television set and all of the A/V equipment, including those in the theater room, were stolen. Dublin Police interviewed residents, captured fingerprints at the scene, and are in the process of analyzing the fingerprints. Dublin Police is still investigating all three cases. If you have any details related to the Sorrento Clubhouse cases, please contact the Dublin Police Department at (925) 833-6638.

Add one more crime. Elan condos had both of the TV’s stolen out of the gym around the same time.

In General, there are just more crimes everywhere, as far as the unemployment rate is still remained high. However in Dublin, it is strongly related to the Jail. It brings in a lot of wrong traffic to our community. Turning out that most of our nice development became their target. For Elan’s condo, the HOA is working on option to install a series of security cameras and more key access card that should originally have been provided by DR Horton. Those cameras will be top of the line product. I never thought we will need to secure our building like those in Oakland, CA.

It looks like even houses of worship aren’t safe from television thefts:

Joy. As future residence of Dublin (moving from Oakland!), I don’t want that sinking feeling that we move out of one rough city into another! I realize crime increases when unemployment is up but I don’t want to stay on defense mode when we do move to Dublin…
