Plans for Dublin Muslim Community Center Still on the Table

The Muslim Community Center of the East Bay (MCC-East Bay) has spent the past few years planning and fundraising to build a 35,000 sq. ft. facility on the three-acre parcel on the corner of Gleason Drive and Brannigan Street in Dublin, CA. The proposed facility has been designed to include features such as a community hall, prayer hall, and day care.
Many Around Dublin Blog readers have heard whisperings recently that the MCC-East Bay decided not to build their new location in Dublin. While representatives of the MCC-East Bay have not formally notified the City of Dublin that they intend to shelve plans for this project, they did recently sign a multi-year lease in Pleasanton for a 7,000 sq. ft. facility. Additionally, the MCC-East Bay has invested a significant amount of time and money to make tenant improvements at their Pleasanton site. Taken together, the lease extension and the subsequent tenant improvements seem to suggest that the group plans to remain in Pleasanton for at least the next four to five years.
If the MCC-East Bay does go forward with their Dublin project, construction will most likely begin once the economy and fundraising environment improve. In the event that the MCC-East Bay decides not to build in Dublin, they will most likely extend the lease on their 7,000 sq. ft. Pleasanton facility and sell their three-acre parcel in Dublin in a few years, when the recently signed lease agreement comes up for renewal. The MCC-East Bay could not be reached for comment.
MCC-East Bay’s three-acre parcel is currently zoned public/semi-public. Based on this zoning, if the property were sold to a private or non-profit developer, it would most likely become a different church, pre-school, community center, or day care. If the City of Dublin were to purchase the property, it could potentially be used for a neighborhood park or community facility.

I just don’t think this should be considered, in the area of town it is being considered– I wouldn’t want a jewish center there, a christian center, a baptist church or a muslin center. I just think it’s not a good location for this to be honest–

FYI, MCC East Bay is in the process of buying another facility in Pleasanton. Land is up for sale.

Hi Anonymous – according to LoopNet, it doesn’t look like the Dublin parcel that the MCC owns is up for sale.
Are you referring to a parcel of land in Pleasanton? If so, which area of Pleasanton?
Thx, John Z.

This is really not something that a resident of Dublin should encourage to build. I don’t know what the statistics of “religious” population of muslims are in Dublin but as a resident I am not in favor of it at all. Why not a jewish temple as well, and also a Methodist church? Whose ridiculous idea is to built a mosque here. Sad very sad.

I think it’s great! God bless America. Let Freedom ring!
1:16 PM on January 4th, 2010
Gosh! what is really really sad is the fact that there are so many intolerant people here!!! make me wonder where i’ve moved to!!!!

Hi John,
MCC east bay is in the process of purchasing a vacant building in Pleasanton, instead of the planned Dublin project. Probably once that is finalized, then the land will up for sale.
10:23 PM on January 4th, 2010
I agree that the location is a poor choice.
There will be a large degree of traffic congestion as well as potential public safety issues.
Additionally, I do not have any negative feelings about Muslims in general, and think it sad that a number of fanatics are hijacking a religion for their own twisted purpose, however it is an indisputable fact that the majority of civil direst / horrific behaviors around the world lately have centered around Muslim functions / gatherings. Hence I truly believe placing this facility next to two other schools and a residential area presents real issues with public safety and is grossly irresponsible in terms of public planning.
You can call me a bigot if you like, but you cannot dispute the fact the mathematical probability regarding potential for danger is anything but greater when in close in proximity to Muslim places of prayer, at least as of now. If this were a gas station, a nuclear power plant, a federal reserve deposit location, my feelings on the matter would be exactly the same; this is NOT a pure Muslim issue.
- a concerned citizen.

a concerned idiot? and yes, you really are a bigot. people want to worship in a non violent way, so be it

Its funny if you want to promote diversity and tolerance what you want is a multi cultural community. If you build any religious faction of some sort inevitably you drive only one group of people there.. which then leads you to a un-diverse community.. Which adds to peoples in tolerance.
Check out the communities in other cities that have a significant religious faction.
Bottom line is religious places should be in industrial areas is my take.

I do find it interesting that people here are saying that that this isn’t the right place for this building. You look at other parts of dublin and there are churches in neighborhoods. I don’t hear outrage on a daily basis from those people. Second, if you don’t want this there. Then when you bought your house, why didn’t you look at the paperwork that the builder gave you. They tell you what can be built on those parcels of land. Something will be built there. You chose to live there.
10:31 AM on January 5th, 2010
that’s all fine and good, anonymous, but the other churches in dublin’s neighborhoods aren’t associated with terrorists. the muslim community is. period.
and, while the muslim community tends to pay a little lip service when a terrorist act happens, they get very quiet, very fast after the fact…
hmmmm?
9:05 PM on January 5th, 2010
Let’s face it. Until Muslim clerics start speaking out against their extremist brethren, they will be subject to the discrimination they deserve.

Is the parcel in question the one west of Brannigan and south of Gleason?
5:45 PM on January 6th, 2010
Hi Just Me – this parcel is west of Brannigan and north of Gleason (next to Springfield Montessori’s site and across from the Sonata community).
Cheers, John Z.

As an atheist I am always disappointed that people go to church to be with people with whom they share unsubstantiated beliefs. They isolate themselves to create peer pressure and avoid uncomfortable questions about their superstitions. They will just have to do it without my approval, as I am sure I do many things against their approval, like think.

Amen to that!

um yeah, so i guess all the potential ‘traffic concerns’ will just no longer exist all of a sudden……….hhhmmmmmmmm……

FOOD FOR THOUGHT…..
Adapted from Dr. Peter Hammond’s book: “Slavery, Terrorism and Islam: The Historical Roots and Contemporary Threat”
Islam is not a religion, nor is it a cult. In its fullest form, it is a complete, total, 100% system of life..
Islam has religious, legal, political, economic, social, and military components. The religious component is a beard for all of the other components.
Islamization begins when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to agitate for their religious privileges.
When politically correct, tolerant, and culturally diverse societies agree to Muslim demands for their religious privileges, some of the other components tend to creep in as well..
Here’s how it works:
As long as the Muslim population remains around or under 2% in any given country, they will be for the most part be regarded as a peace-loving minority, and not as a threat to other citizens. This is the case in:
United States — Muslim 0..6%
Australia — Muslim 1.5%
Canada — Muslim 1.9%
China — Muslim 1.8%
Italy — Muslim 1.5%
Norway — Muslim 1.8%
At 2% to 5%, they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups, often with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs. This is happening in:
Denmark — Muslim 2%
Germany — Muslim 3.7%
United Kingdom — Muslim 2.7%
Spain — Muslim 4%
Thailand — Muslim 4.6%
From 5% on, they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. For example, they will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature halal on their shelves — along with threats for failure to comply. This is occurring in:
France — Muslim 8%
Philippines — 5%
Sweden — Muslim 5%
Switzerland — Muslim 4.3%
The Netherlands — Muslim 5.5%
Trinidad & Tobago — Muslim 5.8%
At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves (within their ghettos) under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islamists is to establish Sharia law over the entire world.
When Muslims approach 10% of the population, they tend to increase
lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions. In Paris, we are already seeing car-burnings. Any non-Muslim action offends Islam, and results in uprisings and threats, such as in Amsterdam , with opposition to Mohammed cartoons and films about Islam. Such tensions are seen daily, particularly in Muslim sections, in:
Guyana — Muslim 10%
India — Muslim 13.4%
Israel — Muslim 16%
Kenya — Muslim 10%
Russia — Muslim 15%
After reaching 20%, nations can expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings, and the burnings of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues, such as in:
Ethiopia — Muslim 32.8%
At 40%, nations experience widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks, and ongoing militia warfare, such as in:
Bosnia — Muslim 40%
Chad — Muslim 53.1%
Lebanon — Muslim 59.7%
From 60%, nations experience unfettered persecution of non-believers of all other religions (including non-conforming Muslims), sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon, and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels, such as in:
Albania — Muslim 70%
Malaysia — Muslim 60.4%
Qatar — Muslim 77.5%
Sudan — Muslim 70%
After 80%, expect daily intimidation and violent jihad, some State-run ethnic cleansing, and even some genocide, as these nations drive out the infidels, and move toward 100% Muslim, such as has been experienced and in some ways is on-going in:
Bangladesh — Muslim 83%
Egypt — Muslim 90%
Gaza — Muslim 98.7%
Indonesia — Muslim 86.1%
Iran — Muslim 98%
Iraq — Muslim 97%
Jordan — Muslim 92%
Morocco — Muslim 98.7%
Pakistan — Muslim 97%
Palestine — Muslim 99%
Syria — Muslim 90%
Tajikistan — Muslim 90%
Turkey — Muslim 99.8%
United Arab Emirates — Muslim 96%
100% will usher in the peace of ‘Dar-es-Salaam’ — the Islamic House of Peace. Here there’s supposed to be peace, because everybody is a Muslim, the Madrasses are the only schools, and the Koran is the only word, such as in:
Afghanistan — Muslim 100%
Saudi Arabia — Muslim 100%
Somalia — Muslim 100%
Yemen — Muslim 100%
Unfortunately, peace is never achieved, as in these 100% states the most radical Muslims intimidate and spew hatred, and satisfy their blood lust by killing less radical Muslims, for a variety of reasons.
‘Before I was nine I had learned the basic canon of Arab life. It was me against my brother; me and my brother against our father; my family against my cousins and the clan; the clan against the tribe; the tribe against the world, and all of us against the infidel. — Leon Uris, ‘The Haj’
It is important to understand that in some countries, with well under 100% Muslim populations, such as France, the minority Muslim populations live in ghettos, within which they are 100% Muslim, and within which they live by Sharia Law. The national police do not even enter these ghettos. There are no national courts, nor schools, nor non-Muslim religious facilities. In such situations, Muslims do not integrate into the community at large. The children attend madrasses. They learn only the Koran. To even associate with
an infidel is a crime punishable with death. Therefore, in some areas of certain nations, Muslim Imams and extremists exercise more power than the national average would indicate.
Today’s 1.5 billion Muslims make up 22% of the world’s population. But their birth rates dwarf the birth rates of Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and all other believers. Muslims will exceed 50% of the world’s population by the end of this century.
——-
I don’t know about you…but I am not comfortable with this. I have already seen evidences of this in Dublin. Many (not all) of the Middle Eastern Markets have their Halal signs in the windows. And you can clearly see their devotion to Islam by the way the women dress. Let’s not get trapped in the above examples. We should approach the city council and find a forum to express our views.
6:29 PM on January 12th, 2010
and by the way…don’t let the phrase Multi Cultural Center fool you. This means that it is a Multi Cultural Center for Muslims…Arab Muslims, Afghan Muslims, Iraqi Muslims, Pakistani Muslims, Filipino Muslims, Indian Muslims and other Muslims. And the Prayer Hall is code for Mosque.
More to come…

I am glad I saw this because I was about to purchase a new Sonata (Lennar) home directly across from this Muslim community site!! I feel sorry for those who are not well informed of this and it seems that the sales agents are hiding the facts as well because it will definitely hurt their remaining sales.
4:14 PM on January 19th, 2010
to the previous comment, funny how you are able to read all the “food for thought’ nonsense, but missed the fact that the MCC has found a more suitable location, and will not be proceeding with the Dublin project! i think that it needs to be appreciated, that they may have taken the concerns of their potential neighbors into account, and decided to re-locate to another, more suitable location!!!!
and the “food for thought” poster, the fear and ignorance in your post is so comical…..!
3:19 PM on January 20th, 2010
I would not take the risk to live in that neighborhood until it is officially confirmed

This center should be a nice multicultural touch to our beloved city. We are all humans and we should accept each other. We should learn from our differences.
This is exciting news for me!
GO Dublin!!!
12:28 PM on March 1st, 2010
I just think this is not a good idea (nothing to do with MCC) but the location is schools and residential. There should not be any community services other than what is provided by the City of Dublin. Will lead to traffic and noise in school areas. Maybe it is high time Tassajara Prep made a bid for this location.
3:16 PM on March 1st, 2010
I say go for the Muslim center because I don’t live in that area.. I would be frantic if I lived in Sonata area which is right beside this site.
4:25 PM on March 1st, 2010
This area is primarily residential and schools. I would be uncomfortable with having any religious center close to schools and high density housing. It adds to the traffic and congestion.

I am an American solider, and I am Muslim. We have a mosque or at least a prayer center on every large military post. I just find it sad that there is still many people who are ignorant and intolerant. I cam across this page while I was searching for a mosque in Dublin, because we do not have on here at Camp Parks, and I going be here for sometime for training.
