Rose Pavilion to Bloom Once More in Pleasanton, CA

As reported in mid-2009, the Rose Pavilion in Pleasanton, CA, is undergoing another rebirth as they recover from home furnishing store vacancies caused by the housing bust from a few years ago. Some of the recent changes at the Rose Pavilion include Express Fitness’ move to a larger location within the southern half of the plaza and Carpetland’s relocation to a more visible corner within the northern half of the plaza. Two other big developments lie on the horizon for the Rose Pavilion Shopping Center:
99 Ranch Market
99 Ranch Market will be opening a new store in the building formerly occupied by Levitz Furniture. Wong Electric is proceeding with the electrical work, and other contractors have been on-site to begin building the various improvements needed to convert the one-time warehouse into a grocery store. The Pleasanton storefront is expected to open in April 2010.
Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market
The purveyor of wholesome foods and convenient prepared meals will be moving into Express Fitness’ former location. Their building permit has been approved since December 2009; however, store officials have not picked up the permit from Pleasanton’s City Hall to begin making the necessary tenant improvements. Although Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market is not listing Pleasanton as a future location, this omission may simply reflect the fact that the website does not have the most recent information, since it still lists Danville as a future site.
Fresh & Easy and 99 Ranch will be joining Safeway and Trader Joe’s along the Santa Rita/Tassajara Road Grocery Corridor. While 99 Ranch and Fresh & Easy will be wholeheartedly welcomed by Dublin and Pleasanton residents, their addition could discourage Whole Foods from opening a future store in Dublin.

Great news, Fresh and Easy is a breath of fresh air when it comes to grocery stores.

Hi mowbeh,
Thank you for your question. We are very excited about the positive changes at Rose Pavilion as well. As stated in the article, The Pleasanton 99 Ranch Market is expected to open in April 2010. The opening date for Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market is less clear. As soon as we find out anything new about Fresh & Easy’s Pleasanton project, we promise to let our readers know. Thank you again.

Nice article, but here in Dublin, it seems that the “housing bust” is ongoing, and certainly not something from “a few years ago.”

Bad new for Dublin, we didn’t get Fresh N Easy, now losing any chance for a Whole Foods or an upscale grocery store like it due to the rebirth in Pleasanton.

Looks like Le Asia in San Ramon is closing in 2 weeks. Interesting that Ranch 99 is opening in Pleasanton. There are tons of Asians in San Ramon and still, Le Asia is closing and not reopening elsewhere.

Nob Hill on Santa Rita is closing some time next month as well. I wonder how Safeway will do once 99 Ranch Market opens up . . .

Does anyone know of the reason why Le Asia is closing? I live in Dublin, and regularly shop there because they have selections that Ranch 99 doesn’t have.

Based on my experience, the groceries there are not as fresh as Ranch 99′s. And they are not operatimg as cost effectively as Ranch 99 due to larger scale of the latter. Ranch 99 has many more stores around the country.

Although Le Asia’s address is in San Ramon, it is so close to Dublin that if I were to live in San Ramon I might as well just drive a few miles more to Ranch 99. If Le Asia was closer to Windemere where most of the Asians in San Ramon live, they will probably do better.

According to San Francisco Business Times, Fresh & Easy is planning stores in Danville, Pacifica, Vacaville, Walnut Creek, Concord and San Jose. It seems to have dropped plans for the Pleasanton store.
