Dougherty Elementary Science Fair Interviewers Needed
The Science Fair is an event to be held at Dougherty Elementary School in Dublin, CA. To ensure the success of the Science Fair, Dougherty Elementary School needs approximately 30 volunteers to interview students from Kindergarten through 5th grade on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, between 8:30AM to noon in the Multi-purpose Room. Individuals who are willing to interview students and provide positive, encouraging, and supportive comments will make the Science Fair a positive and unforgettable experience for the students.
Every student will receive a ribbon and personalized certificate for simply participating, so the interviews will not be used for competition, recognition, or grading. The goal of the interview process is to reinforce student pride in their effort and to allow them to have fun. By presenting their project, the students will gain experience and confidence in public speaking. Student participation is voluntary for K-3rd grade and required for 4th and 5th grades. Each interviewer will be paired with a student for individual projects or a small group of students for group projects. The interviewer will ask questions about the project using a provided interview sheet as a guide. The process will be fun and stress-free for both the interviewers and the interviewees. A light breakfast will be served at 8:15AM, and lunch will be provided for all interviewers.
Criteria to be an interviewer:
- Simply be interested in the event and the students. A background in science is NOT required.
- Bring a sense of professionalism to the event and make all participating students feel important.
- Be available for 1-3 hours between 8:30AM and 11:30AM on Tuesday, March 23rd.
- Be willing to get down on one knee to hear what a Kindergarten student has to say, and be equally enthusiastic with a 5th grader.

I hate to even think along these lines, but I’m a bit leery of the general public being in contact with our Dougherty kids, seeing as their first and last names will be available to the interviewers.
Hope I’m just being paranoid, but this seems like a perfect way for a predator to pump kids for info, especially the younger ones who may not know that it’s not okay to give out their address, etc.

I agree with “..” at 5:14pm on 3/19. The Science Fairs are local (e.g., individual school run) events, that is, unless Dougherty School administration or PFC/SSC asked Around Dublin to advertise.
