CrimeReports

The number of crimes reported in Dublin, CA, dropped slightly from 180 incidents in February’s final crime report to 175 in March’s preliminary report. This reduction is impressive given that March has three more days than February. Of the 180 crimes reported in March, 38% were theft-related, 51% were traffic-related or categorized as quality of life crimes, and the remaining 11% were violence and sexual offenses. The City of Dublin saw a prominent shift from violence and theft-related crimes in February to traffic and quality of life incidents in March.

Dublin Police Services worked with the Castro Valley Police Department on a prostitution sting in front of the Comfort Suites inn on Castro Valley Boulevard in Castro Valley, CA. On March 30, 2010, Dublin Police Services made a total of seven arrests from that prostitution sting.

Dublin saw a handful of breaking & entering crimes and one combination of weapons offense and DUI charge on March 4th in front of Emerald Glen Park.

The Crime Prevention Unit of Dublin Police Services recommends that residents form Neighborhood Watch programs on their streets. The Crime Prevention Unit also encourages neighbors to look out for one another and report suspicious activities or vehicles. By improving general awareness and developing a sense of community, residents will become less vulnerable to crime. If residents are interested in forming Neighborhood Watch programs, please contact Community Safety Assistants Val Ridad at (925)833-6677, or Laura Correa-Hernandez at (925)833-6686.

Regarding John M. Zukoski’s “Monthly Crime Report” – Castro Valley is part of Unincorporated Alameda County and does not have a Castro Valley Police Department. It was Alameda County Sheriffs who worked with Dublin Police on the prostitution sting. I covered the operation for the Castro Valley Forum and there were in fact 15 overall arrests. – Robert Souza, CV Forum Reporter

Hi Robert – thank you for providing the extra detail. It’s interesting that there were 15 arrests because only 7 are being reported on CrimeReports.com. Could it be that the other 8 were booked directly through the County and therefore weren’t included in the Dublin figures? Very odd.

      Thx, John Z.

CrimeReports identifies where crimes took place, but it doesn’t bring up suspicious activities. We need a forum for that – can Around Dublin do this?

For example, on Monday this week, a Dublin Ranch resident observed a suspicious, unmarked white van in their neighborhood around 3:20pm. A neighbor saw someone climbing over a fence to gain access to a homeowner’s backyard, and eventually scared the person away, called Dublin PD and reported the issue.

The license plate of the vehicle is 6D34519 and is white van.

Hi Anonymous – Dublin PD should be the first point of contact so that an officer can be dispatched to the area ASAP. However, please feel free to also share suspicious activities on the Around Dublin Blog comments or the Around Dublin fan page.

      Thx, John Z.

Yesterday, Tues, May 11, I saw Dublin Police offficer draw his gun on two teens at the corner of Dublin Blvd and Tassahara. Anyone know what happened?
