Muslim Community Center Puts Dublin Land Up For Sale

The Muslim Community Center of the East Bay (MCC-East Bay) has put its 3-acre parcel in Dublin, CA, up for sale through its broker Dutra Enterprises. The MCC-Easy Bay had planned to house a 35,000-square-foot facility with a community hall, prayer hall, and day care on the 3-acre land located at the corner of Brannigan Street and Gleason Drive. The MCC-East Bay purchased this lot back on August 30, 2007.

While the assessed value is currently set at $2.5M, the MCC-East Bay is asking for $4.275M. The MCC-East Bay may have difficulty finding a buyer at $1.425M per acre for land that is zoned public/semi-public in this tough economy, especially when commercial land along Dublin Boulevard is going for under $1M per acre. Unless MCC-East Bay is willing to negotiate, the 3-acre parcel of land will most likely sit vacant until the market improves.

The 3-acre parcel is currently zoned public/semi-public with potential uses that include a child care center, a place of worship, a hospital, or a cultural/educational institution. Another option would be for a non-profit group like Eden Housing to build affordable housing on the 3-acre parcel directly across from the Sonata community.

Given that MCC-East Bay is selling their 3-acre Dublin parcel, it will likely extend the lease on its 7,000-square-foot facility in Pleasanton, CA. The MCC-East Bay has invested a significant amount of time and money to make tenant improvements at its current location in Pleasanton, CA. Please contact John Dutra of Dutra Enterprises at (510)353-9984 for additional information.

Why are they selling the land? Very sad, the recent exodus from Dublin. This is such a great community, so welcoming of diversity.

I am glad they put it up for sale. But I will feel better when they have sold it and are out of the picture.

Gosh, the whole angry crew will restart a new thread full of hate and intolerance. Great image for Dublin. At least the first post sets a good tone.

we looked at the trevi’s and decided not to buy because of this muslim center. i will be called some sort of racist, but this is overwhelming.

local residents are lucky and should hope they sell this quickly and get a new commercial client.

I hope they decide to take it off the market and build a place to worship God. I have heard of no complaints from San Ramon and Pleasanton regarding the patrons of the mosques in those communities.

It was definitely not a great location for such an organization. I just hope, its not bought by a Church or a Temple or some other religious entity. Diversity is great- that’s why we have great neighbors from all cultures all around Dublin Bay Area. Lets not involve religion into it.

Im happy to know that it’s up for sale. It’s definitely not a good idea to put up a mosque in here.

What’s wrong with having a Muslim comunity center in Dublin. I really don’t understand. We welcome everyone in our beloved city. Please let’s leave our hatred and scare for ignorant and paranoid people. Islam is a religion and not a race, so we can’t b racist. Biggest number of Muslims are chineese Muslims for example. Comon people Dublin is the most welcoming and hospitable city in the bay area, so let’s keep it that way. Thank you!

Thank Allah they’re leaving! Unfortunately, since this is Dublin, they’ll probably try to force more “affordable” housing down our throats. I’m not quite sure what’s worse…

    A couple of points here:

    1) If they were really interested in getting rid of the property, why would they list it at over 40% of current market price? It almost makes me think that they are only showing that they are “trying” to sell the property, when in fact they know there will be no takers at the high price. Once they “can’t” sell it, they might go back to the City of Dublin to tell them that they can’t get rid of the property and need to build regardless of traffic or other complaints.

    2) For those that live in Sonata (not me) and around that area, I really do believe your traffic concerns. It would be great if the City of Dublin would realize that whatever is built there would create major traffic issues because of the two schools. It would be great if the City would re-zone the land back to residential.

    3) Yes I agree that there are many diversity issues present with this issue and within the city, as witnessed through these posts. Frankly, I’m concerned. That being said, I’m so tired of west dublin residents and residents outside of dublin bashing east dublin residents over their concerns with this project. It’s very easy to throw stones when you don’t have to feel it at all from across town or outside of the city. We need more east dublin representation in our city government! I’m so sick of the “IKEA won’t impact traffic at all” sorts of statements from west dublin residents, as they won’t have to deal with it, but will enjoy the increased tax revenue associated with it.

Great… just what Dublin needs. MORE affordable housing! Why don’t we just move the entire city of Oakland into Dublin and call it a day?

Looking at the hateful venom from perhaps the same one or two persons, the fact remains that Muslims are already in the community. How many terrorist incidents have we seen in Dublin as a result?

The reason they are selling is because they bought a nearby commercial building. As one of a handful of people who can say he was born and raised in Dublin, I am sad to see some of the narrow viewed bigots on this site.

Traffic concerns are legit and valid but check your ill informed hatred at the door.

Those worship diversity are fools. The logical end of diversity is cultural suicide. As the diversity police say, we must celebrate our differences. Unfortunately, many of the groups who are embraced by the mutlicuturalists don’t see it this way.

    People like Happy Dublin Resident are airheads. Not only are they completely oblivoius to world events but to history itself. So stop calling us who oppose the spread of Islam and the building of Mosques bigots, ill informed and uneducated. Some of us are quite educated about Islam and are opposed to it for very good reason. I submit you are ill informed and uneducated about the Koran and Islam in the modern world. So go to the site below if you would like some education;

    http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/

Your cries of racist and bigot ring hollow and mean less every year.
I will not be politically correct in what I am about to say. Islam is a totalitarian philosophy dressed up as a religion. It seeks to eradicate and/or dominate other forms of belief. It is antithetical to democracy, free society and the U.S. constitution. Muslims first demand accommodation then demand changes to the community to remove perceived affronts to Islam.

Beside philosophical differences with Islam, our neighborhood does not need the traffic and disruption that a large facility like this would bring every Friday night.

I HOPE THAT THEY ARE INDEED SELLING. If they are, we just dodged a bullet.

Hi Anonymous – the land that DiManto owns along Tassajara Road is definitely for sale. He had a chance to sell it a few years ago to Blake Hunt but held out for too much money and eventually the deal fell through. The development of that land is key to the future retail development in the Dublin Ranch Villages.

      Cheers, John Z.

Hi John, Thank you for the information. That is too bad that he did not sell it to Mr. Hunt.. It sounds like Mr. DiManto is wanting to much money ? I have seen this property and it looks like prime land to me. Maybe he will get another offer soon. I think its been for sale for many years.

It’s too bad that the politically correct tolerance advocates are tolerant of everyone except conservatives, tea party members, conservative Catholics, pro-lifers, born again Christians, Orthodox Jews, Israelis, Mormons and wealthy Americans. That’s different, we know it’s politically correct to hate those particular groups. We also know that you are so perfect, loving and divine to a point beyond what most other non-liberal humans are that you don’t have one ounce of hate, predjudice or intolerance in your bodies. Please enlighten us oh superhumans on what it is like to be perfect because we with common sense have obviously failed. You diveristy advocates need to float your airheads over to Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Iran or the Muslim controlled ghettos in France to spread your mesaage of tolerance, love and diversity. I am sure they will be very receptive to it before you are stoned being a spy or an infidel.
