99 Ranch Market will be opening its twelfth Northern California store in the building formerly occupied by Levitz Furniture at the Rose Pavilion in Pleasanton, CA, on Tuesday, April 20, 2010. At 45,000 square feet, the Pleasanton location will have an expanded hot deli, a bakery, and a large dining area. In addition to a full-size supermarket, 99 Ranch Market will feature an optometrist office, a cosmetics counter, a health food supplement store, and a bank on site to provide customers with a convenient shopping experience. Grand opening shoppers will be the first to enjoy a slew of super discounts in celebration of this momentous occasion.

As shown in the photographs, most of the tenant improvements have been completed. In fact, nearly all the shelves and the freezer sections are completely stocked and ready for business. Once it opens, the larger Pleasanton storefront, with a much better parking layout compared to the Dublin storefront and easy freeway access, is expected to absorb nearly all of the current 99 Ranch Market customers in East Dublin. Whether the Tri-Valley has sufficient demand to sustain two 99 Ranch Markets less than 5 miles apart remains to be seen.

In 1984, Roger H. Chen, an immigrant from Taiwan, opened 99 Ranch’s first location in Little Saigon, a Vietnamese American community located in Westminster, CA. Today, 99 Ranch is the largest Asian grocery chain in the United States with presence in California, Washington, Nevada, and Texas. The company is currently headquartered in Buena Park, CA.

The new 99 Ranch Market is located at 4299 Rosewood Drive, Pleasanton, CA 94588. The store manager is Danny Li, and the assistant store manager is Tai Chen.

The store looks bigger and better than the one in West Dublin. Hopefully the Dublin store will absorb the former customers of Le Asia to compensate the loss of East Dublin and Pleasanton customers. The Pleasanton store will have new customers from Livermore.

The Pleasanton store looks so much better than the one we have in West Dublin. People in San Ramon, Danville, and beyond will probably still go to the one in West Dublin, but people in Pleasanton, East Dublin, Livermore, and even Tracy will be better served by this new one. I never understood why Ranch 99 chose their current location in Dublin. If there is not enough customers to go around, they can always keep the one in Pleasanton.

I wish we could get a Berkley Bowl, Draeger’s Market, or even a Whole Foods (although that would be my personal least favorite choice) in East Dublin too. I find myself spending way too much time driving to other cities and giving them my money for groceries. The Trader Joe’s we have in Pleasanton is nice – but too limiting for general shopping.

Looks good. Hopefully the added traffic will help revitalize the Rosewood stores too!

Looks nice indeed– I have not been to the Dublin store and the last Ranch 99 store I was at (Brokaw in SJ) was perhaps 10+ years ago.. I’m glad to see that the new store is nice looking– hopefully it will inspire other stores to invest into something nice —- I too would like something based in Dublin Ranch area other than Safeway… I love the Raileys in Pleasanton, that’s a nicely done store– If not that, then Draegers or Berkeley Bowl would be good too— I’m looking forward to Fresh and Easy to open, but sadly it’ll be in Pleasanton instead of Grafton Station ….

Based on my exprience at the Dublin store I’ll pass on this.
Half the store was filled with cigarette smoke, and the checkers were extremely rude. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a Whole Foods or something similar.

Has there been any news on a new grocery store in Dublin, or any more businesses in Grafton Station? Is the Promenade coming or not? It seems that other areas of the Bay have recovered to the point where new construction has already started. Being that we’re the fastest growing city around (so I’ve been told), I’m surprised that it is taking so long for us to get business to set up shop. Anyone know what the holdup is?

Hi Anonymous – there is an Asian fusion restaurant moving to Grafton Station called Karma Lounge. There is also word that there are a handful of meaningfully interested businesses looking to sign leases at Grafton Station. If these come through, then there will only be a small portion of Grafton Station phase II project left to lease out. The Promenade phase I project is being held up due to the challenge in obtaining construction financing and the $8M in development permit/impact fees. My speculation is that the land owner may also be looking to sell the Promenade parcel if a good deal comes along.

Dublin is seeing it’s best growth at the Dublin Corporate Center. We’ve had a bunch of new successful businesses move in to the DCC recently. There is a tremendous opportunity at Waterford Plaza where the former Stacey’s and Blockbusters parcels lend themselves well to attracting highly desirable restaurants to east Dublin. The City recently passed more relaxed parking standards and approved a water/sewer hookup credit that will help kick start development at Waterford.

      Thx, John Z.

I hope the store manager is viewing these discussion boards and takes care to not let the bad experiences happen again.

I like shopping at the Asian shopping places just for the unique merchandise. But my peeve with Ranch 99 at Dublin is the limited parking place and the extremely crowded shop layout. On days when the shop is crowded (most of the days) it’s so hard to move around the store with ones shopping cart.

I really hope that this new store will balance out the traffic and will improve the shopping experience at both places. Although the West Dublin one is closer for me, I plan to start going to the Rosewood one for now.

Yes, I’m serious about the smoke!
I guess I’ll give these guys another shot and just chalk up the experience to someone who wasn’t up to speed on California’s smoking regs. Their fish dept is quite extensive, that’s for sure. I mean, Safeway’s fish dept is a complete joke. I’m also getting tired of Trader Joe’s postage stamp parking lot…
