Fallon Sports Park Set to Open on July 12

Phase I of the Fallon Sports Park in Dublin, CA, is set to open for field rentals and summer camps on July 12th. The ribbon cutting ceremony and related events will be held on August 28th from approximately 11AM to 2PM. Sports groups and task force members will receive special invitations to the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will be attended by local dignitaries and celebrities (perhaps boxer Andre Ward and cartoonist/philanthropist Scott Adams) and should include fun-filled events such as:
- Punt, Pass, and Kick football competition
- Softball game between two groups in Dublin. The match-ups could potentially be Dublin Police Services vs. Dublin Fire Services or DPIE parents vs. DUSD students.
- Golden State Junior Warriors skills competition
- Soccer exhibition with professional players from the San Jose Earthquakes
- Little league pitching and hitting skills competitions
The Alameda County Fire Department Station 18 nearby on Fallon Road will also be open for tours. Concessions will be available for visitors. All these tentatively planned events are subject to change. The total cost of the event is estimated to be roughly $4,000.
The highly anticipated first phase of the Fallon Sports Park includes two adult softball fields, two little league baseball fields, two synthetic turf soccer fields, four lighted basketball courts, four lighted tennis courts, and a rough grade BMX bike facility. Fallon Sports Park is bounded by Fallon Road, Lockhart Street, Central Parkway, and Gleason Drive.

What’s with the by permit only to use the softball and baseball fields? Is there a cost to get a permit? Can individuals who simply want to use the fields to practice with their kids get a permit? It’s very disappointing to be locked out of the fields my tax dollars helped fund, especially during the times when none of them are being used for league games or practices. They’re sitting there empty.

Hi–
any idea when the phase to have the toddler/childrens play areas will start?
kind of lame they did not put that in first, so the little ones have somewhere to play while their older brother/sisters are playing sports.

Im currently in the dublin softball league that plays here and this park is great, but as the poster above me said, its currently not open for public use, which is REALLY lame, hopefully this becomes a park that is open for use when there are not games being played and the local residents can enjoy it just as much.

I’d like to also add the “lame” label to the permit only situation. I’ve been waiting for a year to have a field turf soccer field that I could use to just run around and train. Currently I have to drive up to San Ramon. Now I’v learned that I need a permit to play on the field, even when nobody else is using it in the middle of the day. This is retarded. I don’t see San Ramon locking out their fields (Tiffany Roberts field or Diablo Vista). Apparently, this was a decision made by the city council. We need to get a petition going to overturn this.

Hopefully this is just a temporary requirement. It isn’t immediately clear to me why the City requires everybody to have a permit to use the fields if they haven’t been reserved by other organizations.

No that’s not what I said, but I appreciate your snide comment. I didn’t say wanted to use the field ALL THE TIME. I said that it’s silly to close it to public use during the day when nobody else is using it. I’m not sure you get it…the field isn’t open AT ALL for individuals to use. You have to get a permit requiring a deposit, proof of insurance and about 100 other things. And yes…driving 15 minutes each way to get to a facility that could be 3 minutes away IS a pain, especially when your tax dollars have gone to build a park in your own area. You seem to think that we should wait until the park has fully opened before we take action? The rules for park use have already been set and they aren’t going to change right away, so no reason to delay.

funny that i just went and played basketball there an hour ago,no trouble getting in…but the park isnt even done yet, its still under construction, hence the temporary construction fences that keep people out…they have to do this so people dont sue the city for somebody falling into some undeveloped land…and you know that there is the dublin sports ground where they play soccer every day?

The basketball courts, tennis courts and BMX course do not require a permit. The softball, baseball and soccer fields currently and will continue to require a permit to use unless the rules are changed. There are A-frame signs clearly posted by those fields that say by permit only and a phone number given in order to inquire about getting a permit. There is also a permanent sign posted on one of the structures behind one of the softball backstops that points out again that a permit is required. We are not talking about the temporary construction signs. That has nothing to do with it at all. And don’t tell me I can go to another park when this one is 2 minutes from my home!

Hi Anonymous – I agree with you. We paid for this park with the impact fees and development costs that were baked into our home sales price. The fields should be accessible to everybody in the area and we shouldn’t need to jump through hoops or pay for a permit to use them. There needs to be a way to reserve the fields for events/leagues. However, if the fields aren’t reserved then they should be open to the public.

Hi, I am a new resident to Dublin and have been playing softball in the city for the last 5 years. I see all the nice softball fields and I was wondering how I can get into the leagues out here.
