On September 1, 2010, Chevron will be launching its one-month-long Fuel Your School program in partnership with DonorsChoose.org. Chevron hopes to provide public schools in Alameda County and Contra Costa County with funding up to $1M for projects that focus on science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM). Obtaining funding is easy. Teachers simply submit their science, technology, engineering, or math projects to DonorsChoose.org. Projects are approved and funded by DonorsChoose.org up to $2,000 per project in the order that they are received. Participating Chevron stations donate $1 for every 8-gallon or more fill-up to the projects in the city where the gas stations are located.

Dublin, for example, has two participating Chevron gas stations at 7007 San Ramon Valley Boulevard and 7100 Dougherty Road. If 10,000 customers fill-up at these two stations, Chevron will contribute $10,000 to classroom projects in Dublin’s public schools.

“The Fuel Your School program was launched both to support local schools and to spur other companies to step up with similar programs,” said Chevron’s Public Relations Manager Gus Santoyo. “We are trying to invest in education and help folks in our backyard.” Chevron’s headquarters is located in San Ramon, CA. The Fuel Your School program is being piloted in the Alameda County and Contra Costa County area. It may be expanded to other areas, if the pilot project is deemed successful.

In addition to the $1M giveaway, Chevron’s Classroom Challenge will also be awarding ten $25K grants to the most innovative classroom projects in Alameda County and Contra Costa County. A panel of judges will be choosing five schools in each county to receive these $25K grants. “Chevron is built on innovation. This kind of program helps to provide our future generation of innovators with the resources they need to thrive,” said Santoyo.

Please visit the Chevron Fuel Your School website to submit a project and learn more about the program. Parents and students can help generate buzz and direct drivers to Dublin’s Chevron gas stations by liking the Chevron Fuel Your School page on Facebook.
