Prime Outlets is still planning to open a discount outlet mall on El Charro Road in Livermore directly across from the future Staples Ranch development in Pleasanton. Simon Property Group inked a deal with the Lightstone Group LLC in December 2009 to acquire Prime Outlets. As part of the anti-trust review of the acquisition, the FTC ordered Simon to shed three of the Prime Outlet sites – St. Augustine in Florida, Grand Prairie in Texas, and the Livermore Valley site in California. Based on this revised agreement, Lightstone Group LLC will hold onto the Livermore Valley site at El Charro Road for now and possibly sell it to another outlet mall operator.

Prime Outlets lists the Livermore Valley outlet mall as “Coming Soon” on its website. A recent Positano community newsletter made reference to a planned opening of July 2011 for the Livermore Prime Outlet mall; however, this target opening date is likely to be contingent on the long-awaited extension of Stoneridge Drive in Pleasanton.

While many retail centers have struggled, the outlet mall format has been incredibly resilient despite the challenges in the economy, because more shoppers look for bargains in times of financial uncertainty. The popularity of the outlet mall format means the Livermore Prime Outlet will likely be developed, while other retail projects in the Bay Area are placed on hold.

Many brands have already inked deals with Prime Outlets to open up shop at the Livermore site, including Adidas, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Barneys New York, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Brooks Brothers, Coach, Columbia Sportswear, Gap, Hugo Boss, J. Crew, Michael Stars, Neiman Marcus Last Call, Tommy Hilfiger, and True Religion Brand Jeans.

not a fan of outlets, discount store. Attracts the wrong crowd from out of town.

That’s certainly not a good news for Dublin. With the outlet mall moving forward, there will be no more high End retails coming to Dublin anytime soon. We all Dublin residents are hoping more high end retailers coming to us and revitalize the DEAD Downtown district. We may need to wait at least another 5 year to see any turnaround in Dublin.

I think you’re dead wrong. If high end outlet establish themselves there, it will bring the “right crowd” to attract other non-outlet high end store to settle in Grafton Station/Plaza, Fallon Gateway, The Green, etc.

The elitists are those that do everything to block Stoneridge or El Charro extensions to keep the “wrong crowd” (anyone not living in Pleasanton) away.

      Am I really Dead Wrong?
Look at those Premium Outlet Factory in California, including Vacaville, Gilroy, and Napa. Where are the high end retailers close-by. Why would an retailer would open an outlet store within a short distance from the regular to compete with pricing. That does not make sense to me. Just like Neiman Marcus decided to open the new location in Walnut Creek, but no Dublin. For what I can see Grafton station or the Green will be anther like Norstrom Rack or some other neighbor center with a grocery anchor.

      Be realistic!

With an outlet on one corner, staple ranch on the other that likely includes an automall and fallon gateway (target) on the other will that overpass that was only expanded recently to 4 lanes be able to handle the traffic? Now the overpass seem to be underbuilt. By the time Fallon Village is built out along with properties along Dublin Blvd. to go along with the planned retail at the interchange, it will be a mess at that interchange with just four lanes.

Great Mall is not that far from Santana Row. I wouldn’t call Neiman Marcus Last Call low end. Even at outlet prices the stuff is still ridiculously high. I wonder how many of the seekers of high end store actually purchase frequently from stores like LV, Burrberry, Gucci…

Good point. I am convinced. The Santa Row kind of concept that was proposed at corner of Dublin Blvd and Tasajara Drive is dropped or almost permanently put on hold. Well….as long as the developers are not desperate to lease out all the space for less desirable retailer, I am fine with the vacant land for now. Hope they will not compromise Dublin’s future.

The article mentions that the Prime Outlets website lists them as “coming soon” to Livermore, but I just looked at their site and Livermore is nowhere to be found. Not a good sign…
