Livermore Valley Charter Schools to Debut Permanent Location on August 14

Livermore Valley Charter Preparatory High School (LVCP) and Livermore Valley Charter School (LVCS) will be holding a party and open house for the public to celebrate the grand preview of their future campuses on Saturday, August 14 in Livermore, CA. While admission and activities are all free of charge, attendees will have the option to purchase food and drinks at the event. LVCP and LVCS teachers, students, and administrators would like to invite everyone to join them at 3188 Constitution Drive to tour their beautiful new campuses and to learn more about their innovative education programs. The founders of Tassajara Prep, the public college preparatory high school coming to Dublin in 2012, will also be there to provide updates on the Tassajara Prep charter petition in person. The party will start at 11AM and include activities for the entire family such as jump houses for the kids, face painting, a bocce ball tournament, and more. KKIQ (FM 101.7) will be broadcasting on location from Noon until 2PM, when the festivities conclude.
To ensure that the mission of LVCS and LVCP can be executed successfully, the Tri-Valley Learning Corporation (TVLC) has taken advantage of today’s favorable financing conditions and the current slump in the commercial real-estate market to acquire permanent facilities that will provide a secure and enhanced learning environment for their students. On Sunday, August 8, 2010, the TVLC Board of Directors approved the Agreement of Purchase and Sale and Joint Escrow Instruction for Montevina Site One and Montevina Site Two. Construction of Montevina Site One has been completed for some time, but Montevina Site Two is not yet developed.
In addition to the Montevina deal, the TVLC Board of Directors also approved the Letter of Intent for a Lease Purchase Agreement for the Independence Plaza building located at 3090 Independence Drive, adjacent to the Montevina Sites. TVLC is the same not-for-profit organization that will be leading the Tassajara Prep charter petition to the State Board of Education for approval later this year.

that’s fine for classrooms, but where will the athletic facilities be?

Hi Anonymous,
As described in the article, “Montevina Site Two is not yet developed.” Located between Montevina Site I and Independent Plaza, the undeveloped land of Montevina Site Two is 13 acres. To put the size of just Montevina Site Two in perspective, the entire Quarry Lane K-12 campus on Tassajara Road, including buildings and fields, is only 10 acres.

OK…it’s undeveloped and it’s 13 acres, but the article nor your reply specifies the intended use of the land.

re: “the intended use of the land”
It doesn’t sound like they’ve revealed all of their plans yet, but you asked where the athletic facilities will be and John Z pointed out that they also purchased 13 acres of open land between the two facilities. Use your imagination, or go to the open house and maybe you’ll find out. I’d venture to guess that they are still considering their options for configuring the campus.
Judging from the size of the existing buildings they are purchasing, it looks like they already have all the classroom and office space they will ever need, and more. I have zero knowledge about what they are planning, but I assume they’ll use the empty land for a planetarium, swim center, water slides, IMAX theater, shooting range, golf course, equestrian center, auto shop, solar energy plant, student art museum, performing arts center, video production studio, wind turbines, dining commons, bocce ball courts, bowling alley, RC airplane flying field, and a student lounge/discotheque. If there’s any room left after all that, maybe they’ll put in a playground, athletic fields, a gym, tennis courts, and a multi-purpose room.

Is looking more and more like Tassajara Prep will just be part of LVCP. This is as close to East Dublin they can put LVCP.

Hi Anonymous – while Dublin students have enrolled at LVCP for the upcoming school year, Tassajara Prep will be separate from LVCP once it opens in 2012.
Thx, John Z.

wow this is only one freeway exit from my positano home. i will definitely send my son to lvcp next year. dhs or tp or lvcp – doesn’t matter to me. school alone will not define the future of my son.

This is best news for us. At the open house for LVCP someone said it might be moving much closer to Dublin but I didn’t think it would be so close. It is way closer than Dublin HS. Today I measured with my car and the new site is only 2.6 miles from our condo in The Groves and there are only 8 signals for the whole round trip. The drive to there took about 6 minutes and 4 1/2 minutes back home. Round trip is exactly 5 miles. Dublin HS round trip is 10 miles and there are dozens of signals to there and dozens again to drive home. I timed it and it took 39 minutes yesterday and 41 minutes today. That is an hour and 20 minutes driving each day. There is no track record for LVCP, but it is very impressive at the open house. It is probably going to be a great school. Academics (SAT and AP scores) at Dublin HS is not improving like they promised, so LVCP sound like much better choice. Now we don’t have to move when our son is at high school. That’s good because we can’t afford to move to San Ramon or Pleasanton.
