Bishop Ranch Creating a Sense of Community for Businesses and Workers

Bishop Ranch Business Park in San Ramon, CA, has been a tremendous success story since its founding in the 1970s. It is home to many Fortune 500 veterans such as Chevron, Coca-Cola, and AT&T. Many of the factors that have helped Bishop Ranch become the most successful business park in the Tri-Valley can be applied to Dublin’s two largest office centers – the Dublin Corporate Center on Tassajara Road and Heritage Park Office Center off Dublin Boulevard in West Dublin.
Bishop Ranch has created a sense of community for businesses and their employees by developing an extensive and constantly changing roster of special services, amenities, and events. In addition, Bishop Ranch pampers its business tenants with a full-time staff on site to provide facilities and landscaping services. Some of the Bishop Ranch activities and events include the popular Fourth of July fireworks show, Pilates classes, a cycling club, and discounted Oakland A’s tickets. Perhaps the most exciting event is the opportunity to become Top Chef for a Day with Patrick David Schoolcraft at his highly successful restaurant Patrick David’s in Danville. Chef Schoolcraft regularly provides cooking lessons and meals for the lucky winners.
Deals for restaurants and caterers, health clubs, weekend getaways, hotels, business services, and a variety of retail shops are also among the exclusive special offers to the Bishop Ranch community. Bishop Ranch community members can receive incredible deals like free bocce games on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesday until 5PM at Campo di Bocce in Livermore‘s wine country. Guests of Campo di Bocce in Livermore can also get a 20% discount for take-out orders, 15% discount for dine-in orders, and FREE use of its impressive meeting room for up to 40 attendees. Other restaurants that offer discounts of 10% or more are Esin in Danville, Fuzio in Dublin, and Forbes Mill Steakhouse in Danville.
The Dublin Corporate Center and Heritage Park Office Center can also take a page from Bishop Ranch’s playbook by offering a comprehensive suite of transportation services to improve accessibility to and maximize usage of the Tri-Valley’s incredible public transportation options. Bishop Ranch offers free Express bus annual passes, valued at $1,250, to Bishop Ranch community members and a guaranteed taxi ride home for employees that miss their regular public transportation options.
The Tri-Valley is rapidly becoming an innovation and job center for the Bay Area. In fact, some believe the Tri-Valley will be a leader in the Bay Area economic recovery. In order to attract as many businesses as possible and overcome the competitive disadvantage presented by the higher lease costs, office parks in Dublin need to integrate best practices proven at successful office centers like Bishop Ranch.

Becoming home to large corporate offices is the missing link for Dublin. We have parks, residential and retails galore plus 2 BART stations but lacking in corporate offices that will provide a deep pool of clientele for our restaurants and businesses. Not to mention provide more potential residences who want so live and work in the same city and yes shop in Dublin. Having an abundance of corporations and its employees will attract more upscale eateries and businesses that many have spoken about on this blog. Not to mention the additional business of corporate catering for our restuarant owners. Also hotel rooms will fill up more thus finally maybe attracting a large high end hotel that we are missing for Downtown or on the Blake Hunt site.
With an good array of corporations, maybe the city could partner with the business park owners and its tenants to provide a DublinGoRound free transportion to and from our retails centers and BART. Much like what they do in Emeryville with EmeryGoRound.

I can’t agree more than you on something like DublinGoAround.
It has been a very successful service in eastbay. That’s why, the downtown oakland has just launched a new service of a green Shuttle on the “B”. We need to have the shuttle run from the new Dublin West bart station to Dublin/Pleasanton Bart and go around East Dublin. By providing free Service with a reliable schedule, I am sure more and more people will be encouraged to take public transit. The key is to have the shuttle on time and run every 10 mins at the peak hours. The benefit will supercede the benefit. In addition, that will also enourage more developer to consider Dublin as a Green City, and make it a one of teh most sustainable city in East Bay. Considering the amount of business we are going to bring in with the proposed DublinGoAround, the cost is minimal. We should at least start a pilot plan, and see how observe the usage. Anyway, we should start a topic to discuss how we should position dublin as a sustainable city to attice more business.
