Kid-friendly Eats in the Tri-Valley

Dublin and the rest of the Tri-Valley have attracted thousands of young families over the past few years because of our great schools, safe neighborhoods, job centers, beautiful parks, and fantastic housing opportunities. Moms and dads with young children are always looking for the best kid-friendly restaurants to go out for a meal close to home.
Denica’s has been wildly successful because of its unbelievably yummy baked goodies, breakfast items, and taco lounge. This Dublin mainstay boasts an incredibly fun kids interactive play area, friendly service, and delicious food. “You will find me there every Thursday morning with my son and a few of my friends. Denica’s is a great place for families since they thought ahead and they have a train table and all the cars and trains any child would want to play with,” wrote Michelle W. from Brentwood on Yelp.
Thai House Restaurant is a Danville favorite as noted by its 4.5 rating on Yelp. “I was so impressed with how kid-friendly the restaurant was. Not only did they have a special plate/silverware and cup for my 2-year old, but they brought her orange slices instead of a salad. The waiter also encouraged her to eat well because he had a balloon for her. Turned out he made her a balloon animal and even took the time to draw the eyes on,” wrote Elite Yelper Chris K. from Dublin.
Jim’s Country Style Restaurant is another regional favorite spot to go for an American style breakfast. The food is fantastic, the service is friendly, and the decor has captured the essence of its owner Jim. “My kids, ages 9 and 14, love eating here. The waitresses are always super nice to them and do little “extras” for them like whipped cream on fruit,” said Lisa P. from Pleasanton.
Dublin mommy group coordinator and resident Leah Fritz-Kirby has the following tips for parents dining out with their kids:
- Go during non-peak hours to reduce the wait time for food.
- Salad bars are great, because the buffet style virtually guarantees no wait time. The wide variety of food choices will also give some picky toddlers the opportunity to try new foods.
- Always bring something for the kids to do. Play Doh, crayons, etch-a-sketch are great table entertainment. Many establishments have earned their kid-friendly reputation, because they offer a special kids menu and provide toys and crayons.
- Do ask the server to bring out the bread and prepare the kids’ food first.
- Avoid a hunger meltdown by getting to the restaurant a bit earlier than the kids’ typical eating time.
