The Dublin City Council recently gave its blessing to hand out $120K to various non-profits as part of the 2011-2012 Dublin community grant program. While the amount of $120K seems incredibly generous, given the City had to make drastic cuts in services that impact all residents and businesses in response to its much publicized budget challenges, the 2010-2011 earmark is only two-thirds of the average annual amount that Dublin donated to non-profits over the past four years when the City of Dublin gave away $777,498. The recipients of these funds included many groups that provide educational resources and assistance for low-income seniors and families.

The Dublin City Council recently approved a formal study to determine if annexing the 1,450-acre Doolan Canyon area will make good financial sense for the City of Dublin. The annexation request was submitted by developer Pacific Union as part of its vision to built a 1,990-home active lifestyle senior community that will rival the popular Rossmoor community in Walnut Creek. Of the 1,450 acres under consideration, Pacific Union proposes to keep roughly 900 acres as open space, with the remaining 550 acres dedicated to homes and possibly other features such as shops and parks.

Officers from the Dublin Police Services Crime Prevention Unit along with Deputies from the Community Orientated Policing & Problem Solving Unit of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office conducted an Alcohol Decoy Buy Operation in the City of Dublin this Fall. During the operation, an 18-year-old male decoy attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages at 17 Dublin retail locations throughout the city. The retail establishments were randomly chosen prior to the start of the operation.

Of the seventeen establishments visited, four sold an alcoholic beverage to the underage decoy. The four establishments that sold to the minor decoy were Taxi’s Hamburgers at 4930 Dublin Boulevard, Video Wine Only at 7373 Village Parkway, Dublin Shell Gas Station at 11989 Dublin Boulevard, and Taqueria Azteca at 7155 Amador Plaza Road. The offending clerk at each establishment was issued a citation for a violation of Business and Professions code section 25658(a), sale of alcohol to a minor. During the operation, Dublin Police Services discovered the Taqueria Azteca was selling beer and wine without a current state liquor license. The taqueria has since stopping selling alcohol and removed its inventory of beers and wine.
