Established in 1991, Moonstar Buffet Restaurant offered an upscale and relaxing dining experience in its original San Francisco location. Now in Daly City, Moonstar Buffet Restaurant features seating for over 500 guests and an exhibition style open kitchen easily viewed from the dining room. Using only the freshest and highest quality ingredients, Moonstar serves up seafood like no other buffet restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area. For those who are already planning to spend the day in the City, Moonstar is worth the drive.

As with most buffets, Moonstar places the cheap fillers right by the entrance. To get to the good stuff, diners are advised to avoid the fillers and head toward the end of the buffet. Right before the cotton candy maker is where customers will find two mounds of freshly cut sashimi and a rotating cast of specialty rolls. Moonstar’s sushi roll roster includes everything from the basic California rolls made just right with light mayonnaise to fancy dragon rolls dressed in colorful tobiko and sauces.

Moonstar also offers dumplings, boneless spare rib meat, whole mackerel, noodle bowls, fried goodies like shrimp and chicken nuggets, stir-fried clams, and many other surf-and-turf items. The dessert selection is solid with medium-quality ice cream, bite-size pastries, cookies, and Moonstar’s famous chocolate fondue fountain to christen rice krispy treats, marshmallows, and fresh fruits.

Moonstar’s price cannot be beat. Moonstar charges $12.88 weekdays and $18.88 on the weekends per adult. Prices for kids and seniors are even less. Non-alcoholic beverages are included in the meal price, and alcoholic beverages are available for a few more shekels.

The Around Dublin Team highly recommends readers to arrive at Moonstar within 30 minutes of the buffet’s opening, before the parking lot and restaurant fill up. Moonstar opens at 11AM for lunch and 5PM for dinner during the week and an hour earlier for both meals on weekend. Customers should also plan restroom trips strategically. The ladies’ restroom queues up quickly, as only a few stalls are available to serve Moonstar’s hundreds and hundreds of guests. For those who intend to stay and eat their money’s worth, consider wearing adult diapers.

Moonstar is located at 383 Gellert Boulevard in Daly City, CA.
