The East Bay Bicycle Coalition (EBBC) is sponsoring a Bicycle Safety Education class in Dublin, CA on Thursday April 21, 2011 from 5:30PM to 9:00PM at the Dublin Civic Center Library, 200 Civic Plaza. The EBBC believes that everyone who uses the streets needs to know about the responsibilities and rights of bicyclists. Whatever your preferred mode of transportation may be, this workshop is an engaging way for everyone to learn about the responsibilities and rights of bicyclists.

The instructors will cover where bicyclists should be with respect to other traffic on the road, the equipment bicyclists need to stay protected and comfortable, ways to negotiate intersections safely, and emergency maneuvers to avoid crashes.

“As more people are taking to the streets on their bicycles, it’s important that we have positive interactions with all road users by being aware of our responsibilities and rights, while allowing others to exercise their rights,” noted EBBC instructor Diane Serafini.

This training is free and open to adults and children 14 years and older who are accompanied by a parent. To register, please visit the East Bay Bicycle Coalition website. The class on Thursday is the first of two in a series. No bike is required. The next class will be on the road, where participants will get to practice the emergency maneuvers taught in the first class. A bicycle in good repair and a helmet are required for this class. Both classes are taught by instructors certified by the League of American Bicyclists.
