The Bay Area Breeze (1-0) of the Women’s Premiere Soccer League (WPSL) will host two teams back-to-back at Dublin High School in Dublin, CA this weekend. The Bay Area Breeze will face the Orange County Waves (0-0) on Saturday, May 21st at 6:00PM. The Waves coach, Abner Rogers, is known for building teams that excel in skillful midfield plays and creative attacks. On Sunday, May 22nd, the Bay Area Breeze will square off against the San Diego Sea Lions (0-0) at 1:00PM. The Sea Lions is a very technically sound team as well, with defensively strong, taller players, and the ability to attack up the flanks.

According to Bay Area Breeze player Kim Yokers, the players train hard daily and is becoming more adept at connecting to each others’ strengths on the field. “We are sharpening our skills, executing them at game speed, and developing our creative style of play,” said Yoker.

Most WPSL teams have one or two weekends when they must compete in back-to-back games, as the Bay Area Breeze will this weekend. “It is taxing playing two back-to-back games, but with we have strong roster of players who are more than ready for the challenge,” said Yoker. “It will be important for us to possess the ball and play a game of soccer in which we are controlling the pace of the game, holding the ball when we need to, and attacking when we need to.”

The Bay Area Breeze is a professional women’s soccer club playing in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL). The 22-member squad largely consists of women who have played in the Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) league, professionally in other countries, or have college experience. The Breeze defeated the California Storm of Sacramento to open the season last weekend by a score of 1-0 after a goal by Lauren Alkek in the 60th minute.

On Saturday, the Bay Area Breeze will go up against the Orange County Waves. The Orange County Waves is a new team in the WPSL just like the Breeze, and this Southern Californian team boasts high-caliber players like Brittany Klein (started 20 games for Chicago Red Stars in the WPSL and U23 National team experience), Natalie Spilger (Stanford soccer, 2 years with Chicago Red Stars in the WPSL, and U21 National team experience), and Katrin Omarsdottir (Cal Berkeley soccer and Icelandic National team).
