On Saturday, May 14th, the Bay Area Breeze of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) will open its inaugural season in Dublin, CA against the Sacramento Storm. Owned by a group of life-long soccer professionals and business leaders, the Breeze is now the only professional women’s soccer club in Northern California. “We are excited that professional soccer is back in California. Saturday’s match versus Sacramento will be the start to what promises to be an sensational season of professional soccer in the Bay Area,” said Paul Haley, who is one of the owners.

The WPSL is a Pro-Am league with more than 60 clubs, making it the largest women’s’ soccer league in the world. Players on each team largely consist of women who have played in the WPSL, have played professionally in other countries, or have experience at the college level.

Current players on the Bay Area Breeze include Olympic gold medalist and World Cup Champion Tiffeny Milbrett and former FC Gold Pride player Kim Yokers. “As a new team to the Bay Area, we are excited to kick off our season this Saturday with the statement that professional women’s soccer belongs in the Bay Area and on the West Coast. We have players with many different backgrounds and soccer experiences coming together to play an entertaining game of soccer. We are also looking forward to forming strong connections to the Tri-Valley and Bay Area’s youth soccer players and community and hope to see them out at our games this the summer,” said Yokers.
