Bay Area Breeze Beats Sacramento’s California Storm 1-0

On Saturday, May 14th, the Bay Area Breeze of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) opened its inaugural season in Dublin, CA and played against California Storm of Sacramento at Dublin High School. The game featured former U.S. National Team Players Brandi Chastain (forward, California Storm), Aly Wagner (midfield, California Storm), Tiffeny Milbrett (forward, Bay Area Breeze). Six minute into the game, Brandi Chastain was ejected for hitting Bay Area Breeze player Kristina Hall (midfield) after the whistle. On the assist from Tiffeny Milbrett, Lauren Alkek (midfield) scored sixty minutes into the game and put Bay Area Breeze in the lead. Bay Area Breeze held that lead until the end of the game. The final score of the game was 1-0.
Based in Dublin, CA, the Bay Area Breeze is a professional women’s soccer club playing in the WPSL. The 22-member squad largely consists of women who have played in the WPSL, professionally in other countries, and/or have college experience. Current players on the Bay Area Breeze include Olympic gold medalist and World Cup Champion Tiffeny Milbrett and former FC Gold Pride player Kim Yokers.
The WPSL is national pro-am league with over 60 teams and remains the largest women’s soccer league in the world. The league was formed in 1998 and is sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) as an affiliate of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). The WPSL’s mission is to provide the highest level of soccer in an effort to bring affordable and quality family entertainment to the community and to display positive role models for our youth, while being a stepping stone for aspiring professional & international-level players.
The Breeze’s next game is Saturday, May 21st versus the Orange County Waves at 6:00PM on Dublin High School’s soccer field.
