Located in the East Dublin foothills at 5900 Signal Hill Drive, the Dublin Ranch Golf Course is hidden gem for local golfers. This par 63 course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., one of the top golf course designers in the world. The front nine holes offer breathtaking views of the Tri-Valley landscape, while giving golfers a few challenges. The crosswinds and headwinds in Dublin can come into play on the front nine holes, while the nine holes wind through some homes and parts of the East Dublin hills. While the Dublin Ranch Golf Course has no water hazards, it has plenty of bunkers for players to remain on their toes. The entire course poses an interesting challenge for new and seasoned golfers alike.
The Dublin Ranch Golf Course is in excellent condition at all times, and the greens are top-grade for view and for play. In addition, the rates are a bargain for the quality of the course, at $25 per round with cart. The early evening start offers plenty of time to finish the 18 holes before dark.

The Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) laboratory is now state-certified to conduct a third type of test to prevent bacterial pollution in treated wastewater that is released into San Francisco Bay. Historically, DSRSD has analyzed wastewater samples for fecal coliform and total coliform bacteria, and it has a nine-year record of no violations under its discharge permit issued by the Bay Area Regional Water Quality Control Board. Future permits will require DSRSD to also document the concentration of enterococcus bacteria. DSRSD received state certification to test for enterococcus in June and has already added the new test to the regimen it follows to protect public health.

As Whole Foods Market reignites its growth engine, many Tri-Valley residents have wondered if the premier retailer in natural and organic foods will once again include the All-America City of Dublin, CA as part of its expansion plans. The national chain recently opened the much delayed store in Lafayette and the first San Jose store in the southern part of that city. In July, Whole Foods signed a lease for 24,000 square feet of prime retail space at the corner of Fremont Boulevard and Mowry Avenue in the City of Fremont. The future Fremont store will be slightly closer to I-880 than I-680.
While Whole Foods Market has already established a solid presence along the peninsula corridor, a significant gap along I-680 remains between San Ramon and San Jose. Fallon Gateway in East Dublin now seems the optimal location for Whole Foods, because it will not only help the beloved national grocer fill the obvious gap along I-680 but also launch its foray along the much-traveled I-580. The good news for Dublin residents is that Charter Properties, owner of the Fallon Gateway shopping center, has indicated on numerous occasions that it is actively courting Whole Foods to fill out the remaining anchor pads. In fact, the interest expressed by Terra Bella Family Farm owner Shawn Seufert to set up an artisanal grocery market at the withering Grafton Station may be exactly what Whole Foods needed to see before it seriously reconsiders a location in Dublin and takes the growing demand for local and organic foods in the area for itself.

The Taylor Family Foundation’s 21st Annual Day in the Park event takes place on Sunday, August 28th, from 11:30AM to 5:30PM at Camp Arroyo in Livermore, CA. Proceeds from the Day in the Park auction fundraiser help The Taylor Family Foundation to continue offering the gift of camp to more and more children. In addition to serving children with life-threatening diseases, chronic illnesses, and developmental disabilities, The Taylor Family Foundation is committed to sharing the gift of camp with at-risk youths.
For those who would like to contribute to this great cause but cannot attend the event, they can still help. La Rochelle, an artisan winery focusing on Pinot Noir, announced that seven dollars from every bottle sold of its new 2008 La Rochelle “Bradley Vineyard” Pinot Noir will go directly to the Taylor Family Foundation in Livermore. The winery debuted this single-vineyard release at a “Tasting on the Patio” in July. The L.R. “Bradley Vineyard” Pinot is from Oregon’s well-regarded Umpqua Valley appellation and retails for $28. The wine is specially labeled with the Taylor Family Foundation logo. “It is an honor and privilege to help [The Taylor Family Foundation]. Their longtime work providing camp experiences for children with special needs in our area is inspirational. By donating fifty percent of the wine’s profits, we hope to raise a substantial amount of money to help with their efforts,” said La Rochelle owner Steven Kent Mirassou.

Many families in and around Dublin, CA have chosen to call the Tri-Valley home based on the reputation of its school districts. Recent data from the California Department of Education (CDE) are leading some worried parents to wonder if they have made the right choice. The CDE has projected Dublin High School to be ground zero for high school dropouts in the Tri-Valley.
According to the Sacramento Bee, California’s high school dropout rate recently improved to 4.6%. This latest graduation rate is significantly lower than last year’s dropout rate of 5.7%. The CDE estimates that 18% of all California high school students will drop out over a four-year period. While Dublin High School’s projected dropout rate of 20.4% is only slightly higher than the state average, it is more than 10 times higher than the dropout rate of most other Tri-Valley high schools. The CDE estimates that Livermore High School’s four-year dropout rate will be 4.8%, while Amador Valley High School earned the designation of having the third highest four-year dropout rate at 2.1%.

Paul Epperson won First Place and a "Best in Class" for Pinoy Power from his Young Revolutionaries Project.
Students in the Class of 2014 from Livermore Valley Charter Preparatory High School (LVCP) recently swept up numerous awards across multiple categories for their artwork at the fine arts competition of the Alameda County Fair. The successful showing at the art competition was another grand achievement for the new charter high school that also received many accolades for its accomplishments in the Model United Nations program this past school year. The pieces that won so many awards at the competition were the products of LVCP’s project-based learning model in action.
Students in LVCP teacher Justin Guerra’s English class created the artwork as part of their projects throughout the year. As the only public high school in the Tri-Valley to offer a multi-disciplinary project-based learning environment, LVCP facilitates greater learning by helping students discover their hidden talents and see the interconnections among the different subjects. “Many of the students attending LVCP are attracted by our project-based learning environment,” shared Guerra. “It was great to see kids that hadn’t thought of themselves as being artistic produce such incredible artwork.”
