SnowFlake at the Ulferts Center in Dublin, CA is a cozy little cafe that has become an overnight sensation thanks to its one-of-a-kind icy treats. Over the last Summer, SnowFlake launched a complete lunch and dinner menu. Soon after, SnowFlake gained even more fans as customers come for the desserts and end up staying for the meal. Popular entrées include rib eye steak in black pepper sauce, rock cod in sweet corn sauce, baked pork chop and chicken in tomato sauce, and sizzling pan-fried udon in black pepper sauce. With only a handful of items priced over $10 and an average of 4 stars from over 100 reviews on Yelp, SnowFlake is always packed during lunch and dinner hours with customers patiently waiting outside its door.
Made with ice blocks that have been mixed with condensed milk, snowflake shaved ice is finer than traditional shaved ice. While the texture of snowflake shaved ice is similar to sorbets, the feathery ice sheet that comes off the shaver has a lightness and flare that is unlike any other icy treat currently on the market. Just three months after its opening last March, SnowFlake’s shaved ice has already gotten the attention of the prestigious Diablo Magazine.

Representative Pete Stark (D-CA) and Representative Sander Levin (D-MI), both Ranking Members on the Ways and Means Committee, recently highlighted a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showing that 2.5 million young adults now have health coverage thanks to health reform. “In just over a year, 2.5 million young adults are taking advantage of the opportunity to get health coverage on a parent’s plan,” noted Stark. “If that’s not a reflection of health care reform meeting an urgent need I don’t know what is. This is only one example of the many consumer benefits that will continue to be rolled out as the law is implemented. That is why I’ll continue to fight the out-of-touch Republican call for repeal.” Stark is running for the newly drawn 15th U.S. Congressional district (CA-15) in California. The City of Dublin, CA is part of this new 15th Congressional district in 2012.
A provision in the law allows young adults to obtain coverage on their parent’s health insurance plan until their 26th birthday. The number of insured 19-25 year olds grew significantly from 900,000, when this number was last reported in September, to the 2.5 million covered today. The policy went into effect in September 2010.

Alameda County Sheriff Greg Ahern held a public meeting in Dublin, CA over the weekend to explain the circumstances behind the wayward projectile that penetrated a home, tore up the roof of another, and finally landed in a minivan. The cannon shot was part of an experiment to see if cannonballs could really penetrate castle walls. Roughly 50 residents attended the forum. The official panel included representatives from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and the MythBusters. While Dublin Mayor Tim Sbranti and city staff were in attendance, they kept their distance from the panel.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Was Here First
Sheriff Ahern began the meeting by giving all the attendees a history lesson. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has been at its current location long before Dublin was incorporated as a city. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office was not responsible for approving the homes that have been built nearby. Sheriff Ahern then defended the relationship between the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and MythBusters. According to Sheriff Ahern, MythBusters has provided revenue for Alameda County over the years in exchange for the use of the Alameda County Bomb Disposal Range. MythBusters paid Alameda County $20,000 last year alone for such a privilege.
