The Dublin City Council voted unanimously to “conceptually support” a Dublin Farmers’ Market that will launch in Spring 2011. The new Farmers’ Market will be held on Friday evenings from 4PM to 8PM at Emerald Glen Park on the Gleason Drive side. The Dublin Farmers’ Market will be distinct from other farmers’ markets in that it will feature live music and other forms of entertainment to augment the parade of organic fruits, farm-fresh vegetables, kettle corn, baked goodies, and other farmers’ market staples. The goal is to merge some of the current city programs in Dublin like the Summer Concert Series and movie nights with the new Friday night Farmers’ Market. Local businesses and restaurants at the Shops at Waterford may also benefit from the increased foot traffic, once the new Farmers’ Market becomes a destination spot in Dublin. “I’m very excited as I can just walk over to purchase fresh fruits from local farmers and use it for our toppings,” said Jonathan Rim, the owner of Blush Organic Frozen Yogurt.
Council’s support was bolstered by the more than 97% of survey respondents who voted in favor of a farmers’ market in Dublin. More than 900 residents participated in the survey, and most of them voted for the potential market location closest to their home. Most of the people living west of Silvergate, for example, voted to have the market at the future Dublin Historic Park. Residents living in central Dublin, on the other hand, voted to have the market at Dublin Place (the Target shopping center), while most of the folks in east Dublin voted to have the Farmers’ Market at Emerald Glen Park. Based on the survey results, the Historic Park was top choice for Dublin’s new Farmers’ Market, and Emerald Glen Park was the second most popular choice. As for the preferred time slot, Saturday and Sunday came in first and second, respectively. Friday was a distant third place.

The City of Dublin, CA, strives to be one of the most bicyclist-friendly cities in the Tri-Valley. In July 2007 the Dublin City Council approved the first Citywide Bikeways Master Plan. The City created this plan to increase access to parks, trails, and open space, as well as to jobs and community facilities. The Bikeways Master Plan also takes into consideration the needs of bicyclists in balance with other modes of travel, while promoting cycling as a healthful and life-enriching activity. With the Bikeways Master Plan in place, the City of Dublin becomes eligible to compete for California state funding earmarked for bike path improvements.
Dublin residents currently enjoy a system of pedestrian-bicycle trails along creeks, channels, and some major roadways. Many of the new roads under development include either bicycle lanes or adjacent paths. The City has installed bicycle parking at key locations, including City Hall and the Dublin Library. Dublin Police Services organizes bicycle safety rodeos at several elementary schools each year and plans to expand this program in the future.
Some of the completed and ongoing projects from the Citywide Bikeways Master Plan include:

Adults and kids from all over Dublin enjoy the Dublin Sports Grounds every week. Located next to the Dublin Library and City Hall, the Dublin Sports Grounds has been the bastion of athletic dreams and achievements for many of Dublin’s residents.
While the current facilities have been a blessing to many, Dublin’s City Council recently approved a $1M project to make a series of improvements. The project will be paid for using funds contributed by the Measure WW bond program that was approved by voters this past November.
The City of Dublin is scheduled to renovate approximately 4.75 acres west of the lighted soccer field, including:

The Dublin Hills regional park is a majestic 600-acre open space preserve in the West Dublin hills that was created using land dedicated by developers in exchange for approvals to build homes on agricultural land and natural habitats.
In addition to providing residents with a magnificently beautiful open space area to enjoy for fitness and family activities, the Dublin Hills regional park will eventually provide an integral link to the Martin Canyon Creek, Donlan Point, and Calaveras Ridge Trails. While Dublin Hills was to be opened for public enjoyment by the end of 2008, it still remains under lock-and-key frequented only by East Bay Regional Parks District staff.
Why hasn’t the Dublin Hills regional park been opened to the public?
