The Around Dublin Blog is proud to announce that Shakespeare’s Associates recently announced the addition of our very own John Zukoski to its board of directors. Shakespeare’s Associates is non-profit organization that is committed to producing and supporting professional theater events accessible to and fully integrated with the Tri-Valley and the Greater Bay Area. It aims to become the Oregon Shakespeare Festival of California, attracting thousands of visitors to the Livermore Valley Wine Country to enjoy the arts, wine, and community in the open space.
The program focus of Shakespeare’s Associates centers around its renowned outdoor summer Livermore Shakespeare Festival at Concannon Vineyard. Using professional artists and working from Shakespeare’s First Folio texts, Shakespeare’s Associates creates an unforgettable outdoor experience in performance arts for the audience. In addition, Shakespeare’s Associates produces indoor professional theater at other venues in Livermore including the Bankhead Theatre and the Bothwell Arts Center. “John has a vibrant personality and a keen interest in creating a great community here,” Chairman of the Board Dr. Philip Manwell said. “We’re all looking forward to working with him.”

Dublin has an embarassment of riches this year with respect to Dublin Pride Week volunteers. Over 700 people have committed their services for Volunteer Day on April 24th during the 2010 Dublin Pride Week. The unexpectedly strong volunteer turnout has created an opportunity for the City to take on additional senior-focused and school-related projects. Please contact Environmental Technician Jordan Figueiredo at jordan.figueiredo@ci.dublin.ca.us if you have identified a potential senior-focused or school-related project for Volunteer Day.
Senior-focused projects will start at 8AM on April 24th. Projects will be geared towards assisting elderly citizens with home maintenance projects such as painting, yard work, and window washing. School-related projects will also start at 8AM on the same day. These projects will be geared towards school facility improvement and beautification efforts. None of the Volunteer Day projects will require special skills; all they really need is a willingness to help. Volunteers will meet in Shannon Park, at the corner of San Ramon Road and Shannon Avenue to receive volunteer assignments, supplies, and instructions.
